Title: INSIDIOUS (2010)
Post by: indianasmith on July 26, 2011, 10:34:26 AM
My daughter and I watched this one last night, and it was one of the best scary movies I've seen in awhile.  There are a few nice homages to POLTERGEIST, THE EXORCIST, and other classics, but it is pretty original and has some of the best "jump-scare" scenes I've watched in a long time!  Watch for the kitchen scene especially!

More on this later, gotta run!!

Follow up:  (I got called away from the PC earlier)

The basic plot is a young family with two small boys and an infant daughter are moving into a new house.  The wife has noticed some odd things starting to happen here and there, but then her son goes to explore the attic and falls off a ladder.  He seems unhurt afterwards and goes on to bed, but the next morning he doesn't wake up - or the next, or the next.  But the doctors say it's not a coma, and are at a loss as to why he won't awaken.

Then more and more inexplicable events start to happen, and when the family finally freaks out and moves to a different house in a different neighborhood, the events follow them, and continue to escalate . . .  The husband is in denial at first, but eventually even he can't avoid the truth that some evil supernatural force is attacking his family.

Don't want to give away any more, but if you like a good, creepy supernatural thriller, you will LOVE this movie!

Saw this in theatres twice, left the theatre shaking both times

I thought it was 'meh'.
It just made me want to watch Poltergeist instead.

Not awful and there was one scare that made me jump out my seat, but I found the characters and house very bland. That probably sounds like a stupid comment but I always liked the family in Poltergeist and their house as it felt genuine. I thought it helped seel the story.

I enjoyed this one too. It got a little goofy in the last 20 minutes or so but I'll admit, the first hour was way atmospheric and creepy. I jumped a few times and I rarely do that!

This was, like LAST EXORCISM, frustrating for me because I was really enjoying it until the last 5 minutes happened.
Didn't feel it was a waste of time though.
