Title: The Worst Endings for Anything
Post by: InformationGeek on August 27, 2011, 08:59:01 AM
I... I... I can't believe it.  I seriously cannot believe it.  This can't be happening... but its true.  Out there, there is an ending... an ending that is... far worst than Monster A-Go Go.  Yes, an ending worst then Monster A-Go Go.  My mind can't comprend it.  My brain just can't accept it.  Allow me to set the stage for how this goes:

The show is Master of Martial Hearts, an anime about girls kicking the crap out of each other in different fetish clothing (That sums it up quite nicely).  The storyline is about a girl named Aya who one day runs into a girl called Miko who is getting beaten up by an airplane attendant.  She runs in and saves Miko, who explains what is going on with that strange scene.  Apparently, the two were having a match in an all girls fighting tournament and the winner of said tournament gets something called the Platonic Heart, which can grant whatever wish you want, but only one.  Later that night, Aya goes to Miko's apartment and discovers it ransacked with Miko missing.  Remembering something Miko told her about all the losers of the tournament disappearing if they failed (Miko failed because Aya jumped in to fight for her), Aya decides to join the tournament herself to get the wish to save Miko.

Now, this is a very trashy kind of show and it is what you would expect from this kind of material (It's something along the lines of Ikki Tousen & Sekirei if you know what those are).  However, what happens at the very end... is unbelievable.  It's cruel, it's offensive, it's unforgivable, and it is a plot twist that comes so far out of left field that it came from an entirely different ball field altogether.  Now, this is how it ends:

Aya brutally beats her last opponent to death and Miko (Who pops up out of nowhere) takes her to a warehouse where Miko kept all of Aya's past opponents, who have gone insane and will be sold as perfect women (sex slaves).  It turns out Miko, Natsume (Aya's best friend whose been around since the beginning), and Natsume's brother organized the whole tournament and Aya's family set up the original tournament and sold all the losers into slavery including Miko and Nastume's mothers and Miko's mother was given to Aya's father who murdered her on Miko's fourth birthday while Natsume's mother had her throat slashed in order to mute her and was sent overseas but escaped and told her children what happened and eventually Natsume and Miko met and decided to hold another tournament to destroy Aya somehow and after they're done explaining this they shoot her but the building blows up because Aya's mother was there who also explains that they started the Martial Hearts tournament to seek revenge on Natsume and Miko's mothers because their fathers killed their families and then she kills them and bandages up Aya who escapes the burning building while her mother stays inside and then it cuts to Natsume's mother carving up pictures of Aya and the doorbell rings and the last shot is her answering it and her eyes going wide and screaming in terror.

WHAT THE F**K KIND OF ENDING WAS THAT?  Ignoring the plot holes, the senselessness of it, the fact that Miko & Natsume's revenge makes abolustely no sense and they are now as bad as the people that tormented their family, and the plot twist needed the entire final episode to try to make sense of itself; the biggest problem here is that it doesn't flow well and it doesn't match the rest of the series at all.  It would be like if at the end of Rambo if everyone would break out into a musical number or if at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark, the Nazis kill Indiana and take the ark back to Berlin, where they use it to win the war.  It just does not fit!!!

ARGDFGDFGSDFGSGDFGGGGGGHHHH!  Anyhow, now that I got out of my ranting and head exploding trauma of trying to comprend that ending, how say you all?  What other endings can that are horrible, despicable, do not fit with the rest of the series' tone or mood, make no sense, and are offensive.  Feel free to name any movie, TV show, book, video game, or anything else you can think of.

an anime about girls kicking the crap out of each other in different fetish clothing

Okay, that just shot to the top of my Netflix instant watch queue   :bouncegiggle:

A few really bad endings that stand out for me:

(spoilers of course)

Harvesters (2001) - some completely despicable criminals do a home invasion on a family, but it turns out the family has been abducting people and selling their organs.  Okay, so there are no "good" characters in this, but the organ-selling family is at least likable.  The first group of criminals, and namely their leader, are absolutely loathsome.  And they win in the end!  What the hell, did the people who made this think that anyone could possibly like or sympathize with this "person"?  WRONG.

Supernova (2000) - A spaceship crew brings a mysterious alien object aboard.  It may have the power to destroy the whole galaxy.  Universe even.  At the end it does its thing, and the computer tells the surviving crew members that the result may be either that the universe will end, or something wonderful will happen.  WTF?  Hey, you guys are getting paid to write this damned thing, that includes the ending too you know

Night Skies (2007) - Aliens come to earth and terrorize some people in a motorhome.  Finally they get abducted and they're on the alien spaceship.  Who has survived?  How will they escape?  Cut to guy waking up next to a road and having no idea what happened to him.  Oh come on, you think you can just skip the climax of the movie?  That's the most important part you effing morons.

Showdown at Area 51 (2007) - this ending was so stupid it was actually good.  A huge alien invasion fleet comes to earth, but they're all waiting for their guy on the surface to activate the McGuffin and make the invasion a whole lot easier.  He doesn't get it done, so the order goes out, something like "Invasion canceled, return to base."  LOL, you've got ships as big as freakin' cities!  Aren't you even going to try?

THIS POST CONTAINS MASSIVE SPOILERS (duh, we're talking about the endings of movies)

I brought this up just a couple days ago in another thread but it works here, as well.  Diabolique.

The movie was just shy of brilliant for its entire running time.  It seemed as though Nicole had decided Christine was a liability and was driving her towards suicide.  Nope.  Turns out Michael was never dead after all and he and Nicole had been in it together the whole time.  I don't think I'd ever been so p**sed off at a movie in my entire life.  It was like eating a wonderful meal and then finding out the secret ingredient was pig s**t.

Christmas Evil.

he movie is about a guy that really loves Christmas who once saw "Santa" having sex with his mother.  He eventually grows up and goes on a killing spree dressed like Santa.

The ENDING has him driving his van along to escape and suddenly out of nowhere it starts to fly through the sky.  Out of nowhere, a movie that didn't even try to HINT at anything magical or supernatural has the guy's van fly away into the sky.

You know how you were using the example of of a movie where Rambo ends with a musical number?  This is that movie.

anything ever where it turns out the entire thing is a dream  :hatred: :hatred: :hatred: :hatred: :hatred:

it's lazy writing, cliche, and a cop out

although a twist that makes no sense at all like in Monster A Go Go is a close 2nd

Even when you know a movie was badly handled and was cut, and missing footage never put in, so certain scenes don't make any sense.. the ending to Gates Of Hell/City Of The Living Dead is like that.  A kid runs happily toward his parents as they return from some zombie killing and they scream for no reason.. huh?  The end!  Well, f*** you too, movie!
I might have gotten something wrong but that was what I remember.

Maybe not the worst, but one of the most ridiculous (SPOILER AHEAD!):

The climax of NIGHTHAWKS where a woman (supposedly Lindsay Wagner) has her back to the camera.  When "she" turns around, it is actually Sylvester Stallone in drag.  I saw this movie in the theater and I remember lots of giggling and groaning and whispering when this happened.

Look, I love The Lord of the Rings books, and I'm also fond of the movies, but the ending in the films was just painful to watch in many ways. The ending works just fine for the books, but the half-hour denouement is just excruciating on screen. I knew when I heard the first rumblings of a film adaptation in three parts that the ending would be impossible to do effectively. I defy anybody to make the ending of LOTR work in a film adaptation.

Machete, I was totally digging that film until the last 20 minutes.

Revenge Of The Sith, nothing was believable and it happened too quick.

I actually can't stand any ending where the monster comes back in the last minute in a twist ending.

The Ninth Gate.

All that for NOTHING!

Did the screenwriter leave for lnuch and just left the story hanging?
Grrr....
And it's a good film too.
Its was such a disappointing. Seriously, look on the imdb, most complaints are all about the ending!

I agree. I hate all the Lord of the Rings movies, but what angered me the most was that the 3rd one seemed like it could've ended maybe 30 minutes sooner.

Just because something is in a book that a movie is being based on doesn't mean it has to be in the movie. Kubrick made classic films The Shining   and A Clockwork Orange and made changes to them. You know what, the movies were better for it.

Kurbrick also made Dr. Strangelove a comedy after he realized he couldn't make a normal film about the bomb scare due the reason the bomb was fired was due to the Communist conspiracy theory of replacing precious bodily fluids which is the reason given in Red Alert, which the movie was based on.

Well, not really the worst, but the ending to Pieces is pretty weird. And out of nowhere.
And generally has a WTF feeling to it.

I really didn't like the ending for High Tension. Seemed like a cop out, but actually it didn't completely ruin the movie for me. I really enjoyed that one!

I actually can't stand any ending where the monster comes back in the last minute in a twist ending.

I couldn't agree more.  I was really enjoying KAW, a Skiffy channel movie that was a lot better than their usual crap, but then they pulled a twist at the very last second.  Ruined the experience.  The movie is still good, but I'm stopping at least a minute before the end in order to end it the way I want it.

I think the all time one for me is Nightmare On Elm Street.

I saw the first fight clip, and it was just for guys who dream about seeing (half)naked girls fight to the death. :thumbdown:And that's how I feel about it.
