Title: Creatures You Can't Stand
Post by: Mr. DS on September 12, 2011, 11:29:15 AM
Its apparent many of us are animal lovers here however, what are some you would shoot on sight if you were allowed? Well aside humans and cryptology specimens...off of the top of my head here are mine:

Deer - majestic and peaceful my @ss...all they do is destroy gardens and leave Lyme infected ticks everywhere.  Screw off Bambi. Venison is great.

Mice - bunch of lil b@stards think they can invade your house, crap all over the place and eat your food.  Screw off Mickey.

Dogs - this one will get me flamed probably but I really don't like them.  Many are gross to me actually in their ways and behaviors.  Screw off Fido.

Theres more but I can't think of them right now.

I don't like dogs either. I used to, when we used to have an alsatian when I was growing up. But as I grew older I got attacked by a lot of dogs, realised that I have no patience with them (ones that never sit still anyway) and that they stink.

I have lost a  lot of patience with dogs.  I know some I like as individuals, but the species (and more likely their owners) really are getting on my nerve lately.  A lot of it is poorly trained dogs, and owners who don't know the difference between "pets" and "babies" I have to be honest about.

Off the top of my head ...

MICE  - absolutely detest them!

SLUGS - slimy disgusting things ... ugh

Ants.  They don't frighten me but I do hate them.  Fortunately I haven't seen any in my house so far.. I'll have to give it time I guess, I only had it one year.

Spiders I DO get, however.  Big black ones.  DIE!

Wasps and yellow jackets I hate too.  Got some wasp nests recently on the outside of my house and in my tool shed.  The foam spray works WONDERS; spray at night and knock it down/squish it in the morning.  Victory is mine!

I fully recognize the importance of bugs. Their existence tends to have a far greater impact on ecosystems and the environment in general than any of the larger creatures that humanity seems to fawn over and try to protect.

I recognize this fully.

They're still yucky, however. If I have a run-in with bugs I feel them on my body long after I've washed them off completely.

I'm mostly a live-and-let-live kind of guy. I don't have a real problem with most creatures, insects included. As long as they are outside, at least. If they invade my home, they are doomed to die as quickly as I can kill them. However, right now we have some mice that are experts at cleaning traps without springing them. We will soon have to resort to glue traps, at which point I will have to brain the little turds once they are stuck. Oh, and cockroaches/palmetto bugs creep me out. I won't kill them most of the time if they are outside, but I reeeeeeeeeally hate it when I spray one and it goes kamikaze on me. Yech.

Octopuses.  I've been scared of 'em since I was little.  At this point, I can actually look at a picture of one, but I haven't been able to watch certain bad movies because of them.

Crows and Gulls: I don't have a deep seated hatred for them normally only when they, which they seem to have a tendency to do, defecate on my car.  :hatred: Of course they often squall and caw early in the morning to waking me up too early.

Dogs: I've never really liked dogs. They're generally big and smelly and like to jump on you and get germs all over you. Some are downright nasty too. Now a well-groomed, well cared for friendly dog I find a little more tolerable.

All insects: they creep me out especially centipedes, spiders and ants. Or they like to bite you and leave you all itchy. Butterflies are probably the most tolerable of them.

Turtles: I don't like that they carry germs on their bellies.

Snakes: they just creep me out.

Lizards: some of these can get pretty darn nasty.

I've got a newfound hatred for spiders.  I used to like them - they kill bugs, and that's a few less that I have to kill.  But then one of the stinkin' things bit me - after a lifetime of tolerant co-existence - so now they're on my s*** list.  I squished one yesterday...just to watch him die   :hatred:

And centipedes.  What kind of demonic evolutionary misfire produced those god-awful things?  I mean, 100 legs for something an inch or two long?  Good grief.  Just pure creepiness.

Use carburetor cleaner.  That stuff makes 'em drop dead as soon as it hits them!

As for me, I don't like Xenomorphs.

They slobber all over the place, bleed acid, and try to kill me and my friends.  Unfortunately carburetor cleaner doesn't work on them.

I'll drink to that one...I don't really hate spiders as much as I'm freaked out by them.  My worst experience came when I was around 11 or 12 back around 1975 or '6:

A very large brown wolf spider (about as big around as a coffee saucer) was wrapped up in a sleeping blanket I took out of my closet for a sleepover.  It immediately got up and started for me, but wasn't fast enough, as I threw the blanket back over him.

I yelled and my uncle came running and was like "What's wrong"? When he'd seen the spider crawling out and across the floor, he was like "Sh^t! Look at the size of that MF!"

So, he took a very long handled fly swatter and ended the life of this huge monster. It had to be at least 4 inches long..

And to thnk they grow about 3 times that size in the Amazon...:buggedout:

human beings - ugly, loud, overpopulated, hateful, destructive, etc.

I don't understand hatred towards animals like dogs and cats. Whenever anyone tells me a reason for hating cats it's because they were scratched once, or they hate dogs because a dog bit them once.  Big f***ing deal, crybaby, there are tons of others that are friendly.  Maybe learn to avoid unfamiliar animals or approach animals with caution.  I wouldn't really want a dog as a pet myself, too much maintenance.

I have to second those who vote for centipedes. Creepy as hell especially since their legs seem out of sync with how fast they move. Knowing that they are venomous doubles their creepiness aspect.

Now on to one I also agree with but for different reasons than posted before. Humans: Interestingly enough for a project I have to research common trauma injuries for ER visits and the most common bite wounds that people show up with at ER's is in the order dog (most common), cat (moderately common, but why go to the ER?) and Humans.
No really, I'm not screwing with you, shockingly extremely common especially guys showing up drunk as hell with bite wounds on their hands at the ER in the middle of the night with no explanation as to how they got bit on the hand especially with the other guys canines imprinted across their knuckles.  Human bites almost always become infected. Any other animal at the ER they just mop it up and stitch you back together but if your bit by a human and you don't get antibiotics soon infection is extremely common.

Humans creep me out because we have a naturally infective bite.

The spider in your avatar looks like the one that was in my sleeping blanket, only bigger..it is quite an eye opener to see one of those heading towards you with the will to attack you.

I will however give spiders kudos for the locomotive wonders they are..8 legs, any surface=no problem for spiders. But otherwise, not high on my list of faves.

Let me put this to you, in the words of Cracked.Com
Quote
The truth is that while you certainly shouldn't pull one out of a storm drain and put it in your mouth, there isn't any scientific basis to assume that rats are exceptionally disease-prone animals. This stereotype primarily stems from the infamous Black Death, an outbreak of bubonic plague speculated to have killed over 75,000,000 people during the mid-1300s. But it was actually transmitted by the fleas of warm-blooded mammals in general. Rats appeared responsible for the plague only because they were so common.
The same goes to roaches, but my post should be revised to say Flying Roaches.

That's a Haplopelma schmidti which is found in China and Vietnam...sooooo....unless you were hanging out there, it's not likely you saw that one!  They get to be about 8" leg to leg so I wouldn't want to see that in a sleeping blanket either!

Sorry to hear about the pups. Do your Pyrennes live with the goats? That's a great  relationship.

Another similar animal relationship I learned about living in the country is keeping a few donkeys with your horses. I was told horses run from coyotes (encouraging them to give chase) but donkeys will stand their ground and kick the bejeezus out of Wile E.

I'll add two more bloodsuckers:
Ticks
Leeches

I don't think there's anything I truly dislike, pretty much every creature on this planet gets my go ahead.

That is until they get in my house.

I don't like cockroaches. I have no problem with them in the great outdoors, but once they cross my property lines I get pretty upset, and they've been pretty hard to eradicate at my current residence. I don't keep my feet bare at any time in my house. Let me tell you, when you feel the pitter-patter of little feet crawling across your own feet and look down and see one of those buggers exploring your appendages, it's disconcerting and more than a little unpleasant.

I also don't like black widows, which I have to make an effort to keep clear of unused corners. Normally I love spiders and would leave them to their business (they kill other bugs I don't like), but black widows are just too dangerous to be comfortable around.

I also don't like mosquitoes in my house. If all they did was suck my blood, I might be all right with them, but itchy welts are something I can do without.

Oh, I hate cockroaches! I hate the way they look, the noise they make when crawling around. I hate seeing them in movies and on TV, I hate the thought of cockroaches anywhere near me. Luckily, living in the UK and in an upstairs apartment, there's not much chance of me coming across one. But, I have had the unfortunate experience of being up close and personal with one of the disgusting bugs. I was working in a hotel kitchen about 5 years ago and I was putting clean plates back into a compartment in the service hatch when a big fat cockroach fell out right in front of me. This was during a busy night's service and before I could finish pointing in shock and exclaiming "there's a cock....", the head chef stamped on it. We had a massive deep clean the day after, have never seen one since.
