I first watched this movie way back in like 1994 at my grandma's house and had no idea what it was and what it was about other than "the big surprise". I recently watched it again after maybe not seeing it for 3 years. I think it has to be one of the best stories, and most well-acted films of the 90's. Even though in my mind, it will always be recognized for that one scene, I found it mesmerizing and a completely captivating movie-viewing experience.

So, it got me to thinking, and I wanted to know from some of you who have seen the film, what would you have done if you were in Fergus's situation. I am just speaking as a heterosexual male when I say I think it would be a very hard thing to come to grips with after he found out about Dil, but I just found it to be beautiful in the end how much he cared for....'her'

So does the idea of "love can survive through anything" ring true here, regardless of all the factors involved?

Another thing that I never picked up when I watched this as a kid was the opening song, and how the irony played into not just Fergus and Dil's relationship, but also Jody's and Dil's. Just something I found to be cool.

Anyway, share your thoughts, comments or opinions on this film. Did you guys like it? Hate it? indifferent to it?

I went into it knowing what the surprise was, which annoys me, but it was very hard to avoid. Heck, if you've seen Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, it's already ruined for you.

I really enjoyed the film, but I haven't seen it since it came out, which is almost a decade now. It is about a lot more than what is known for. Actually, I don't remember too much about the actual story other than bits about Forrest Whitaker and the I.R.A.

As for the sexuality, which the film is very much still about, well... Sexuality is a lot more fluid than a simple either/or switch, but I think it's also a lot more biologically oriented than most would care to admit. If it works, it works, and if it doesn't, it doesn't. There's a reason homosexuality has persisted for millennia despite its persistent taboo, which is often quite literally deadly. The vice versa is true as well. The little mechanics (how's that for a euphemism?) matter.

But there is a lot more to human relationships than sex. A whole hell of a lot more. What makes The Crying Game interesting is that is interested in exploring a very real connection between two people who exist in a very weird realm of interaction. The intimacy between the two goes beyond little bits hitting each other, although from what I remember, their relationship has still got a strong influence of the awry and unhealthy.

Anyway, an interesting movie, which I should probably watch again.

Whatever happened to Jaye Davidson? He went on to the play the androgyne in Stargate and then seemed to drop out of sight.

Mofo . . . didn't Jaye Davidson die a few years ago?

Nope.  He's alive and well.  He simply decided he didn't want to pursue an acting career and pretty much dropped out of the public eye.

Been meaning to watch it ever since it was brought to my attention in an episode of I'm Alan Partridge
