Title: Top 5 Time: Woody Allen Films Post by: Flick James on October 17, 2011, 11:13:33 AM I suppose if you hate Woody Allen then you can s**t all over the thread. However, I would prefer responses from those that at least appreciate some of his films. I'll start:

I'm glad somebody besides me acknowledged Midnight in Paris. For all you WA fans, if you haven't seen his latest, it is a gem. Immediately after walking out of the theatre I realized it shot into my top 5. It has a charm that he hasn't shown in a film in some time. I'm generally not a fan of his dramas either, but I thought Match Point was phenomenal. In no particular order: Zelig Manhattan Sleeper Take the Money and Run Bananas With a very honorable mention to two movies that are only partially his: What's Up, Tiger Lily? and Casino Royale. Also, if you are a fan of his one-liners, try some of his short story collections such as Without Feathers, Side Effects, or Getting Even. Very fun stuff. Title: Re: Top 5 Time: Woody Allen Films Post by: Hammock Rider on October 18, 2011, 08:35:34 AM Sleeper
Radio Days Take the Money and Run Annie Hall Purple Rose of Cairo Title: Re: Top 5 Time: Woody Allen Films Post by: The Burgomaster on October 18, 2011, 09:58:36 AM Also, if you are a fan of his one-liners, try some of his short story collections such as Without Feathers, Side Effects, or Getting Even. Very fun stuff. I read these books multiple times. I probably read WITHOUT FEATHERS about 6 times when I was in junior high or high school. We passed a dog-eared copy of Without Feathers back and forth throughout our senior year. Ironically enough, it was in the Psychology class that we shared that we would often pass it back and forth. I just find it funny that the book is so tied in my life to a psych class, with all his talk about psychoanalysis all the time. As much as I take hits for him, and defend him, and love his work, I have hardly seen all of WOODY ALLEN's films, and there's at least a few I don't like so much. Though I own one or two on videotape, I don't think I own a single WOODY ALLEN film on DVD, and my favorite movie is the top of my list. Here's my five:

I do enjoy Radio Days. Haven't watched another WA film. Title: Re: Top 5 Time: Woody Allen Films Post by: tracy on June 19, 2012, 12:44:50 PM Not gonna sh*t all over this. My Mom isn't much of a fan but she does like Radio Days. :smile:I do enjoy Radio Days. Haven't watched another WA film. Title: Re: Top 5 Time: Woody Allen Films Post by: JaseSF on June 19, 2012, 06:15:46 PM First off, I have to note I haven't seen the majority of his films. Of those I have seen, I enjoyed these the most:
Sleeper What's Up, Tiger Lily? Bananas Deconstructing Harry Shadows and Fog Title: Re: Top 5 Time: Woody Allen Films Post by: HappyGilmore on June 19, 2012, 06:35:18 PM I'd probably like more by him.
But every Woody fan seems polarized and can't agree on films. I happened upon Days on HBO one day years ago, liked it, but probably not enough to watch another. I did see one on the other day. Not sure what it was. Was Bette Midler or Diane Keaton in one with him or by him? It was in the middle of the film. Wasn't bad from what I saw but since it was half over I didn't watch much. |
