My girlfriend and I went for our 20 week scan the other day and found out we're having a baby boy. Crazily, she's letting me choose the name of the baby! So I need a little help, as I've already been told to discard a list of quirky names and have only come up with these ones so far...

Shane and Vincent are good names, IMO.

Why is "Rev" not a choice?

(I went with "Vincent," for V. Price).

I went with Marshall because I used to know a guy with that name and he was a great guy.  Sort of a fun loving computer geek who also liked to play golf.  That's what your son will be like if you name him that   :thumbup:

Vincent is great too, but only if people don't call him Vinny.  I wouldn't want to be a Vinnie.

Of the choices posted, I'd go with either "Brett" or "Marshall"... I'd have to flip a coin to decide between the two.

One of my brothers is named Shane.

Oh, and Seth is a pretty good name too.  :)  More common in the states now than it was 40 years ago, though.

I've always loved the name Vincent.

I don't know, call me a traditionalist, but I think you should name him after yourself. "Circus Circus Humphreys, Jr." has a ring to it.  :teddyr:

I agree with Jack: Vincent is great as long as it doesn't become Vinnie.

And since your girlfriend nixed any quirky names, I guess Nilbog is out, right along with Bogart (Bogart Humphreys?!? Genius! Someone kill me now), and Alvin Samuel (so his initials would be A.S.H. and you could teach him to fight Deadites and carry a boom stick).

Though I'm guessing that at least some of these names are inspired by great guitarists, I only like STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN as a "Stevie".  "Stevie" is an affectionate for Steven or Stephen, or Steve (itself a shortened name) but as a name though STEVEN is a name I've always liked, but "Stevie" I am not so fond of.  

RICKY NELSON was ERIC HILLIARD NELSON and I also liked that book ERIC (about the young man that dies of leukemia) and I like the sound of that name.  Though I love him, I wouldn't want my son to be VINCENT PRICE.   :wink: :thumbup:

I voted for Shane, it's a quality name.

If I had a son, I would name him Logan. It's a great name, but if my son ever asked me who he was named after I could say, "Who are you named after? You're named after Wolverine!"

I was thinking Eric, after my grandfather who died in 2009. Stevie, is indeed after Stevie Ray Vaughan - which I still would have used if it had been a girl (Stevie Nicks). Marshall, after amp maker Jim Marshall (RIP) and Dalton is after the Patrick Swayze character from Roadhouse.  :wink:

Okay, biblically speaking, its after the world's first murder victim (better than Cain, anyway) but I always liked it.

I also like Daniel (Dan or Danny for short), but I've heard people say its too old fashioned.

In combination with the surname, Dalton Humphries rolls out about the best to my ears.

Whatever you name him be sure to nickname him "Humpty."

Went with Dalton, purely because it matches the surname well, and partially because it's, for me, the least common on the list and I have a preference for names that are a little off the beaten path but not so far that they seem odd.  My girlfriend and I were casually talking about this the other day which almost came to blows, but the most agreeable one on the list that we were talking for boys was Hendricks. 



Jor-El would be cool though...

And if you go with Dalton, you can also tell people you named him after...

I picked Marshall or Shane, although I'm not opposed to Vincent. All I ask is that you ditch "Stevie." As someone named Steve, I always despised being called that.

I went with Vincent for well probably the same reason anyone else picked it.

Also whatever his first name is, his middle name should be "Von'.  last names are just so much cooler when you have "Von" in front of them.

Von Humphries isn't too bad.  You just have to have the right first name to go along with it.  Like "Otto". 

Otto Von Humphries.  If that name doesn't say creepy German Butler with a monocle, I don't know what does.  As an added bonus, he now has a clear career path ahead of him!

Jediah Dillon-after Jed Clampett and Marshell Dillon of Gunsmoke.
And Edward Clyde-after my Uncle Eddie and Clyde Barrow-(cuz I'm Ronny-he's Clyde).

Vincent Humphries is an awesome name (then again, so is Abel Humphries, but I won't press the issue.)

The key is the middle name. It can be something that won't tramatize the boy at school, as middle names aren't commonly thrown around, but it can be something meaningful to you.

Also, if its embarrassing enough, it can add an extra level of insult when you're trying to disipline him as shown:

"VINCENT (insert obscure b movie reference) HUMPHRIES! HOW DARE YOU FEED ENEMAS TO THE DOG!" or "VINCENT (insert Dr Who reference) HUMPHRIES, YOU PUT THAT MACHETE DOWN RIGHT NOW, OR SO HELP ME..."

Dalton or Vincent would be fine. I'm also writing in Quentin here. All of these names are uncommon, and yet not unprecedented, and have no majorly unfortunate historical associations.

Found out today that my girlfriend is keen on the name Vincent. So it's looking like Vincent at the moment, with maybe Eric or Marshall as a middle name.

Went with Vincent or Eric, congrats Circus.
