Title: New Munsters project Post by: HappyGilmore on July 04, 2012, 09:52:28 PM So, producer Bryan Fuller is rebooting The Munsters as an hour long television series. Tentatively called Mockinbird Lane, it's gonna deal with the weirdness in the Munsters little part of the neighborhood.
From what's been announced, it's gonna be a part drama/part comedy/part supernatural series. I liked Fuller's past shows Wonderfalls and Pushing Daisies, so I'm a bit tempted with this. However, they said that the makeup would be 'very toned down' from the original series. So far, they announced Jerry O'Connell as Herman Munster, Portia De Rossi as Lily, and Eddie Izzard as Grandpa. Good grief. How many times they gonna remake this... Anyway... I'm a huge fan of the original so I'll check it out. I just hope it's better then the sucky 90's version. He should wear his old, original Eddie wardrobe and be this dysfunctional 50 year old still living with his parents.

I do actually like the three leads in this, but nobody can replace Gwynne, DeCarlo or Al Lewis. It's one of those casting choices that seems strange at first, but then starts to make sense. At the very least, he's a decent actor, and somebody must have given the matter some thought before choosing him, because he's far from an obvious choice. Overall, the casting choices are interesting.
I get the impression that this show is being taken seriously, and will have a different tone from the original, so I doubt it will turn out anything like the show from the 90s. They wanna approach it in a way that's respectful to the original, yet 'new' enough that the new producers can add their own touch.
