Ernest Borgnine, who created a variety of memorable characters in both movies and television and won the best-actor Oscar for his role as a lovesick butcher in "Marty" in 1955, died Sunday. He was 95.

:bluesad: R.I.P. Mr. Ernest Borgnine, you were in so many, many movies over the years both good and bad but whether good or bad, I always looked forward to watching any movie in which you appeared. Movies you've been in which I've seen and really really enjoyed included: From Here to Eternity, The Vikings, The Poseidon Adventure, The Black Hole, Escape From New York, The Wild Bunch and so much more. I even sat through The Neptune Factor and Laser Mission largely just because you were in them. There's there all that vast body of TV work and TV guest appearances. We've lost yet another of the great old time character actors.

Ugh, that's a bummer, but 95 is a pretty damn good age to reach.  Man, look at his film credits, he never stopped working!

The guy was a legend.  I know he was more iconic for playing tough guys but I liked him best as MARTY.

He was in terrific shape up till near the end.  His autobiography, written around age 92, is a very enjoyable read.  He got a pretty great part in a theatrical film featuring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Brian Cox, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich a couple years back.  Yeah, he had a great run and was a great all-around guy.

To lose a man like him is always sad, but it's never a shame to die at 95.

I was sorry to see him go, but glad he got to be well aged.  He is in enough remarkable films it will take a very very long time before ERNEST BORGNINE is forgotten.  ERNEST BORGNINE is just beginning.
