Title: Bad Video Games
Post by: Olivia Bauer on August 13, 2012, 11:49:52 PM
Share with me experiences you've had with bad VIDEO GAMES.

Me? I rented Superman on Nintendo 64. I was at Blockbuster and thought "Hey it's Superman! I have to try this game!"

Trips to rental stores were rare due to them costing an arm and a leg, so my time was essentially wasted. Dad's money, too.

there's a thread for this:

But I'll say it again- Need for Speed: Pro Street is the single worse game I've ever played, it was the biggest middle finger to a franchise built around illegal street racing to go to closed course tracks.

We have a thread somewhere about the worst video games you've played.  But hey, the more the merrier!  I like to get crappy game experiences off my chest, as a warning to others.

Generally I love the Genesis but it had some black marks:

DARK CASTLE (Genesis)
I bought this right when it came out, having played a MUCH different version on the Amiga.  This franchise was semi-popular on that computer.  But the Genesis version is so dull and stupid.  The "nya-nya-nya-nya-nya!" noise from the green creatures and the "haw, haw! Brrrrrrr!" noise you make when you fall from a not-quite fatal distance is beyond annoying!

MIKE DITKA POWER FOOTBALL (Genesis)
Mechanical and stiff game of football.  My brother is a big Bears fan and I got the game to see if it could compare to the Madden games.  Nope!  On top of it sucking the game has a weird music track that seems out of place in a football game!  And on top of that, there's an easy cheat to get all the opposing defenders to freeze, allowing for an easy touchdown.  Crappy game, I gotta say.

HEAVY NOVA (Genesis)
Stiff and clunky robot fighting game.  I think I got this for free, or maybe I bought it used for dirt cheap.  Either way, I think I got ripped off.

TECHNOCOP (Genesis)
Stupid cop driving/platformer game.  You can shoot children into a messy heap and only get docked points!  Bad mechanics and sound effects/music.

SHOVE IT- THE WAREHOUSE GAME (Genesis)
Awful puzzle game.  Hell, Tetris is a million times more fun.  Push crates onto dots.  That's pretty much it.

"Batman Forever" for the Sega Genesis. Totally incomprehensible crap. I bought this cartridge at a yard sale a couple of years ago and I still can't make heads or tails out of it.

I should mention LEGO Batman for the PS2, since the save system was f**ked up in my experience. The game is great, but my experience with it on the PS2 was bad. got it for the PS3 and it worked fine.

It's the little details designers overlook.

I have to say "Duke Nukem Forever" HAS to fall into this category. Also, Daikatana, and Diable 2.

Anything NOT named Unreal Tournament 3004 or Borderlands needs an honorable mention, since those are the two greatest games ever.

I had a hard tuime witH UT2004, but I'll dig it out again from the dusty reches, I love UT 1999 to death.  W

hat I don't like are the ENDINGS of so many games.  Outside of Halo, they all follow the BIG BOSS fight with a contrived solution method (Half Life 2 I'm talking to you).  Or in the Civilization grand strategy game vein, you end up in an endless war where computer players randomly change sides for no good reason.

Similar story but SNES version for $0.99, never have I regretted spending a dollar more then that time.  Xmen nes version was bad from what I remember, don't recall much difference in any abilities.  I also hated The Legend of Zelda 2 for a long time.  Not because of the play change, but because it was very tough to figure out.  Have gone back and started appreciating recently as I can understand it now.

I seem to remember trying to play Sword of the Samurai on the PC in the early 90's, there was a similar thing when you were trying to become shogun and damiyo would rebel almost without provocation as you simply got close to controlling everything.  Though it wasn't difficult to overcome it was one of those annoying features as you wanted to declare yourself shogun and half your provinces and armies would rebel.

Home Alone

Home Improvement

Wayne's World

Friday The 13th

Nightmare on Elm Street

Three Stooges

American Gladiators

Back To The Future

Basically, all for NES, and all based on tv/movie properties.

All sucked.
