Title: Thomas And The Magic Railroad
Post by: AlienatorDonut on September 12, 2012, 09:53:09 AM
Loved as a kid. Hated as a teenager.

Thomas And The Magic Railroad is an Americanised version of The British Series, not just that, but it also doesn't have much Thomas in it, the characters are very over the top, Diesel 10 is far too scary for young children and the plot is way too complicated. Peter Fonda's role was just way too depressing!

I'd probably give it 2/4 slimes, only because kid's would enjoy it, but it is a fairly bad movie and it may need reviewing.

Saw this in theater.
I went because I was a fan of Peter Fonda, but 30 years after Easy Rider, he looked like he was still stoned, only not the cool part where you're peaking, but the sucky part where you're coming down.

I was however, surprised by Alec Baldwin. For years, I never understood the hype, but after seeing the hammy acting in Rocky & Bullwinkle that same week, he turned out to be the one redeeming feature in this train wreck.

My oldest son (he's now 10) loved Thomas the Tank Engine when he was very small, so I was subjected to this movie numerous times (I'm not sure which well meaning relative bought him the DVD for his birthday but if I ever find out I'm gonna b*tch slap them... haha)

Peter Fonda's "acting" (and I use that term loosely) in this movie is astoundingly bad. He appears semi-comatose throughout the entire film. I'm like "did he lose a bet with someone and had to appear in this movie as payback?"

I also wonder why "Frenchy" from "Grease" chose this film as her big comeback vehicle.

Give me the old school stop-motion animated Thomas TV shows (preferably narrated by Ringo Starr or George Carlin) any day over this thing.
