Indicating a genetic link between how you find cilantro tastes. I have a friend who thinks its horrible.  I don't mind it, but I think its overpowering.  I don't get the soapy taste.
Just thought I'd do a straw poll of you guys.

I like it, and enjoy dishes made with it. 

As far as growing it in a garden, it's a menace.  I've decided that it is a weed that tastes good.  That stuff goes crazy and spreads everywhere.  We now have little patches of it in the yard, which means mowing the grass sometimes causes a heavy cilantro scent to fill the air.

It's good in small quantities, like chopped and mixed with rice or salsa.  I'll use it in my Hispanic-type dishes.  Add a little lime juice, salt and cheese in those recipes.  Yum!!!

Fresh cilantro is very rare here in Germany. The dried variety can be bought in tons though.
I made an Asian dish once with fresh cilantro. To be honest, I hardly tasted it at all.

I love cilantro. It's pretty much a necessity in salsas where I live.

It really isn't news that genetics predetermine how things taste, though. You just have to take it as a given that some people have different taste receptors than you do. It's genetic. For example, some people can not eat canned vegetables. They have taste receptors that make something like canned green beans taste disgusting. I don't have those genes, so canned vegetables taste fine to me.

Or another example, you may be familiar with the idea that eating asparagus makes your pee smell very, very strong. I've heard that, but my genetic makeup doesn't let me smell what those people are smelling. It may stink, but I simply do not have the smell receptors in my nose to perceive it. I could have an asparagus pee party and never know there's a problem. The sensors simply aren't there.

It's like being able to roll your tongue. Some people can do it, some can't. It's genetic.

I like Cilantro in small quantities in Mexican food.

I don't really like the taste myself.

I enjoy Cilantro.  But I always thought Groucho and Chico were funnier.

I enjoy it. A friend of mine at work is Mexican, lived there til he was 24 or so.

He makes a lot of food for us with it. Not many enjoy, but I do.

I don't mind it in small doses, but too much of it can ruin a dish.

Nasty s**t...ugh!

I don't especially like it and see no need for it in any food, but it doesn't bother me when there is just a small amount.  I don't even notice it in most of the Mexican food I eat.

I like it quite a bit use it lots of dishes with rice.

I love it and would eat it in most main dishes if I could.  :thumbup:
