Title: Late 70's or Early 80's movie with woman who drinks potion turns into a bird
Post by: mbailey24 on September 15, 2012, 02:19:27 AM
I have looked everywhere to figure out the title of this movie.... Here's the list of things I can remember:
A woman who is into sorcery is travelling by ship and hires a ship/captain to take her and a monkey/baboon to a destination.  She is very protective of the creature as he is really a boy/man.  I remember he plays chess.  During one part of the movie, she drinks a potion to turn into a bird and when she returns to drink it again, it has spilled and there is not enough so she ends up having a webbed foot and walks with a cane. Please help me put my mind to rest with the name of this movie.

Definitely "Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger" (1977).  It's one of Ray Harryhausen's excellent stop-motion-monster Sinbad films.

Having seen it back in '77, when it was first released to theaters, I can verify that Andrew is correct. It is "Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger," and Harryhausen's stop-motion-monsters were excellent. Probably the best part of the movie.

A little more information. Sinbad, this time, was played by Patrick Wayne, John Wayne's son, and the woman with the bird foot, who was the villainess in the film, was played by British actress and singer Margaret Whiting.

Another famous child in the film was Taryn Power, who was the daughter of noted actor Tyrone Power.
