Title: My Weekend Double Feature Post by: indianasmith on October 16, 2012, 05:34:13 PM This weekend I had a chance to watch two horror movies; the first one was an Indondesian horror film called AMPHIBIOUS. An American marine bilogist hires a fishing boat captain to help her search the Indian Ocea for prehistoric life forms possibly released by the 2004 tsunami. She befriends two orphan boys working on a fishing platform, which is then attacked by a monstrous sea beast from the Silurian period. Great special effects, monstrous gore, and rather poor dubbing - but very fun to watch! Many of the monster effects were done with models instead of CGI, a refreshing change in this day and age.
The next one was a disturbing psychological thriller called LOVELY MOLLY. This was a brilliant little indie horror film about a newlywed lady named Molly who moves with her husband into her childhood home. He is a trucker whose work frequently carries him away for several days at a time; she is a janitor at an office building. After they move into the house, she begins hearing noises and seeing things; repressed memories of childhood abuse come back to haunt her. As her world comes unravelled, she turns back to the drug abuse she had quit before - but are the things she sees real? Or is she having a breakdown? Little by little, she slips past the realm of sanity, and carries her husband and friends with her. This is a really disturbing film, with some truly horrifying scenes - also some pretty graphic nudity. But the end is truly shocking and unsettling. Definitely a must see if you like unconventional horror! |
