Why couldn't they simply do the story of Oliver Queen, without turning the canon into applesauce? They couldn't go five minutes without saying something to the effect of "We're looking at the Nolon films" or "We love the realistic superhero take that The Dark Knighthad...." They never seemed shy about saying they were just trying to bring Batman Begins to the small screen, just with a different hero in the title.
And I will partially defend Smallville. While it started out as a typicall CW drama-some of the later seasons were enjoyable. The creators learned that going too far away from the source material wasn't bringing in the large fan base that it needed. LAter season, they allowed it to be more comic book-esque and brought in other DC heroes and villains. It still wasn't great, but at least they weren't afraid to admit they were based on comics. |
