Title: THE GHOSTMAKER (2011)
Post by: indianasmith on November 29, 2012, 06:06:16 PM
This was a first rate little indie horror film I watched earlier this week!

Kyle is a college student whose drug problem has wrecked his grades and is undermining his relationship with his girlfriend Julie.  He shares an apartment with
a paraplegic roommate named Sutton, and his best friend is a nerd who works in the
college library named Platt. Kyle does odd jobs to support his habit, including cleaning out old buildings and hauling stuff off to the dump.

He is cleaning out a basement for a creepy old lady when he finds a very ornate wooden coffin in a corner of the cellar.  She tells him to destroy it, but he decides it might be worth some money cleaned up, and takes it back to his house after dumping all the other stuff.  As he cleans the coffin's padded interior, the head cushion pulls up to reveal a complex set of cogs, clockworks, and gears underneath, along with an embossed key bearing the name of a long dead German warlock.

Turns out the coffin is a "box of shades" that allows those who rest in it to experience the sensations of death without actually dying. Kyle, Sutton, and Platt all take turns experimenting, and the ability to move unseen tempts all of them in different ways . . .

This is a very well done horror film that moves along at a brisk pace and contains some nice surprises.  I highly recomment it; it hits some original notes and is definitely worth seeing!
