Title: Worst of 2012
Post by: akiratubo on December 28, 2012, 08:25:21 PM
It's that time, folks.

What is the worst new release you saw in 2012?

Prometheus, without a doubt.

PORK CHOP 2

But what did I expect?

Probably THE FOURTH DIMENSION.

But since no one saw that besides me, I'll go with SILENT HILL: REVELATION. Runner up: THE ODD LIFE OF TIMOTHY GREEN.

I believe I've seen about FOUR of the films released this year.  Kind of depressing, actually, but the worst I saw was Ted.

Bearing in mind I haven't seen Ted or whatever that Adam Sandler movie was from this year:
Seeking Justice
Wanderlust
The Innkeepers
21 Jump Street
Magic Mike
Friends With Kids
Battleship
Lockout
Lola Versus
Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Apparently, seeing as it's on my worst list and all.

I'm also one of the few horror fans who didn't like Cabin In The Woods although it didn't make the list.

I didn't even hear about Silent Hill: Revelation until it came out which speaks volumes about whoever handled marketing on that project.

I call of your choices and present this one:

But you say, it's a crappy kids film.  So what?  Well if you don't want that, then about this?

Or if you prefer big budget and high profile horrific films, then this (Possibly not safe for work):

Ooh, I'm looking forward to that one. You're saying it's bad?

If you are looking for a clear cut case of a movie being pretentious then this is it.  It also has going for it bad acting, no real plot, nothing that makes sense, no one talks like a human being, goes on for far to long, and other things.

It's been a while since I've seen it, so just check this review for other things I may have forgotten about:

Interesting.  Part of me wants to see it, but watching the trailer I keep thinking, "You went from Viggo to this?"

Killing Them Softly-Yikes! I really wanted to give this a chance but this was a pretty frustrating and poor film. This guy makes Oliver Stone look subtle by comparison. Political speeches over multiple scenes, ending with Brad Pitt explaining the thesis of the film. Worst of all was the scene where the characters do heroin and the soundtrack is ... Heroin by the Velvet Underground! There actually are some interesting performances going on here but overall this was a waste of a lot of talented people.

The Comedy-I just hated this movie, but I think that was the point...

Have to say The Master was the worst for me. Script was too slow/disjointed and watching Joaquin act like a crazy guy when you already know he's crazy in real life is a bit disturbing.

Have to ask, are any of the movies mentioned funny bad or are they bad bad?

Brave, this movie is what recycling themes is about- A Princess that is forced to marry a suiter for her, wants to live in the wild, stand up to her parents, and is just too damn predictable!

Creep Van
The Cabin in The Woods
Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter*

*What has started this ridiculous new trend about taking real historical figures and classic fictional characters from the ages (Lincoln, Hansel and Gretel etc.) and rewriting them as bad asses? It's annoying and stupid.

I believe "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" was the first example of this trend, at least the first one I noticed.

It started as clever satire - the book ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER is actually quite brilliant - and then the bandwagon effect kicked in.  That being said, as a history teacher, I rather enjoy it.  FDR: AMERICAN BADASS is one of the most gloriously awful films I have ever seen!
