Title: Dumpster Baby (2000)
Post by: akiratubo on March 14, 2013, 07:03:50 PM
This is a BAD movie.  It seems to have been filmed with a consumer camcorder without any sort of lighting or sound work done.  The on-camera mic just had to do its best and, if the ambient lighting was lousy, then that was just too bad.

There isn't a plot, just a parade of depravity.  A crack ho has a baby (she doesn't even realize she's pregnant).  Her friend takes it to throw away in a dumpster.  A guy finds it while receiving head from a hooker.  The hooker stuffs in the back of a cab and the cabbie's wife finds it.  She uses it to blackmail a college professor she's been humping (for grades) into believing it's his, and collects a few bucks from him.  The cabbie's wife leaves it in the park and a retarded groundskeeper finds it.  Two bullies steal it from him and trade it for a rare comic book.  And it just keeps getting worse from there.  By the end, we've had vigilantes who kill the wrong people, a couple who kidnaps teen girls for "breeding", a rape scene as an excuse for showing some bare tits, suicide, insane vagrants, and even God committing serial murder.

Wait, what?

All through the movie, there's a guy with a white face and black clothes observing the people who end up with the baby.  When they invariably fail to do the right thing, the man kills them.  I honestly think this character is supposed to represent God on the search for one decent human being, just one.  If I'm right, God came out of this movie sorely disappointed.

The last minute of the movie - and I mean that literally - is actually quite good.  In fact, if you were flipping through the channels and caught this one scene, you might think you had missed a pretty good movie.  God comes calling on the drug addict who threw the baby into the dumpster in the first place, and we finally get a look at the baby itself.  This one scene is perfectly composed, paced, scored, and acted.  Was this one great scene worth sitting through the rest of the movie?  Actually, I think it was, although I'm probably the only person who would ever think so.

I've seen Dumpster Baby.

I tend to give zero-budget films a lot of leeway. However, they are usually garbage. And if they are zero-budget and emblazoned with the Troma logo, it's usually guaranteed.

As it is, it isn't the worst idea for a movie. I mean, I could see what they were going for. It's just that they failed. It's pretty much unwatchable unless you're a dedicated movie masochist. I'd say that 90% of people who start the movie don't finish it. And that's taking into account the few people who would even decide to watch a movie called Dumpster Baby.

I saw the whole thing. Yep, pretty terrible movie.
