Title: Manborg
Post by: JayJayM12 on April 03, 2013, 12:52:57 PM
Just saw a screening of this last night and all I gotta say is:  SEE THIS.  SEE THIS NOW.  It's the new (or old - I think it's a couple years old, but just now getting released) movie from Astron-6, the guys who did Father's Day.  It's a (VERY) low budget take on 80's action/sci-fi that was like a nice mix of Robocop, Terminator, Tron, Mortal Kombat, Escape from New York, and Fortress.  All done on green screen with cyborgs (manborg), martial arts, gunplay, mad scientists, Nazi vampires, little guys, bad (yet great) stop motion animation, and great humor.

Because I thought that it was a GREAT movie.  The cheap look was fully intentional in this movie and was done completely tongue in cheek (much in the way that, for instance, Grindhouse had Tarantino and Rodriguez purposely making their films have that 70's worn look).  The movie has won multiple festival awards (yeah, I know that doesn't mean it's good, but I'm just saying it HAS), it's gotten great reviews (only 1 bad on Rotten Tomatoes and it wasn't even THAT bad), and the audience I saw it with was howling with laughter the ENTIRE time.  I think that helps fit the bill to be in the Good section.

Yes, in looking at it, it looks like it is bad, but that's all on purpose.  They were in COMPLETE control of the movie they made.

I have no idea why Ray Harryhausen is in the BAD movies section.  I didn't put him there (I'm a huge fan) and that has nothing to do with THIS movie.  As a matter of fact, this movie has a lot of stop motion animation that seems to be in direct tribute to the works of Ray Harryhausen.  You should probably see it before condemning it as bad - you can't really judge it based on a clip or trailer.  But, I appreciate you being so willing to throw out my opinion as bad based on what little bit you saw...

Calm down dude - I was just coming on here to recommend a movie that I and an entire audience really enjoyed and I figured would appeal to this site (others have talked about loving Father's Day).  It's totally cool to have a differing opinion about a movie, but you don't have to be such a _____ about it...
