Post by: AlienatorDonut on April 05, 2013, 03:10:55 AM
I found out that Roger Ebert died last night. :(

He reviewed movies, both good, and bad.

RIP.

Are you calling ME a bummer? If you are, then you're being abusive. I'm not lying, Roger Ebert kicked the bucket, go to Wikipedia if you want proof.

I'm sure he meant that it's a bummer that Ebert passed away.  Which, it is...  R.I.P.

go to Wikipedia if you want proof.

Quite possibly the first time that statement has ever been uttered!

What a shame! I used to love to watch him sometimes agree  and sometimes duke it out on "At the Movies". I found that I tended to agree more with him than Gene Siskel. He didn't come across as an intellectual snob and seemed to really have fun with the films. He went through a lot in his last years but he had heart....R.I.P. :bluesad:

RIP

I notice you're from UK..."bummer" basically means "that's a shame" or "that sucks" in the US. I know over here it means "homosexual" but I'm sure that's not what he was implying!

I found him to be quite the intellectual snob, especially when it came to his views on super hero movies and video games.

Dude was fun to watch when I was a kid. Him and Ebert reminded me of the two old guys from the Muppets. They were probably my first exposure to true cinematic critiques and for that I appreciated both of them even if I had vehement disagreements with their opinions. I don't think either of them were snobs...if anything, they were just guilty of being old white guys - at times just not that hip.

I didn't always agree with Ebert, but he did a good job of explaining exactly why he thought the movie was good or bad.

That's too bad about Ebert.  Another long standing element of the entertainment industry passes away.  RIP.

I rarely agreed with Ebert's reviews but they were always so well written (and often hilarious) that even if he was trashing a movie that I loved, I could never be mad at the guy.

I've read several of his books over the past couple of years, I particularly enjoyed his autobiography (Life Itself), which vividly describes his battle with cancer ...even with a couple of near-death experiences under his belt and having been robbed of the ability to speak by his disease, he was still very positive and full of love for film and for the written word throughout the book. It was a very humbling read and made me admire the man even more than I already did.

He'll be missed. R.I.P. Mr. Ebert.

I may have not always have agreed with Roger Ebert, but I always listened to his point of view. It's a shame we have to live in a world with no Siskel or Ebert now.

R.I.P. Roger Ebert. So sorry to read this news. This is actually the first I've heard of it. Personally I found I agreed with him more often than not especially during the 90s. It is sad there's no more Siskel and Ebert.  :bluesad:

My local library is having their annual Used Book Sale this week and I managed to snag a like-new copy of Roger Ebert's "Your Movie Sucks"... cool. I've read it before but have wanted to revisit it since his passing.

Yes! Also UP! and BENEATH THE VALLEY OF THE ULTRAVIXENS. Then he would give Russ' movies good reviews and talk about how he was the only artist working in porn!
