By Asylum standards that actually looks pretty bad-ass!  :teddyr:

Betcha it'll premiere on SyFy Channel the same weekend that the 'real' movie opens in theaters.

hah it's got Treach from Naughty By Nature in it. one of my favourite rappers of all time but his part in El Chupacabra proved he's no actor, lol

I'm so out of touch I don't even know what this is supposed to be a rip off of?

Is it just me, or has The Asylum stepped up the quality of their CGI work? I mean, compared to their "Bigfoot", this thing looks AWESOME!!!

The Asylum has improved their quality of late.  I think ABRAHAM LINCOLN VS. ZOMBIES was actually a better film than VAMPIRE HUNTER in many ways.

I can't understand how these DTV rip off films continue to get made. Is there really that much money to be made in these?

Not just you.  Judging only from the preview this looks like some of the best CGI I'm seen from The Asylum.

They have appeared to get better at their CGI work.  Their effects in the awful "HG Wells' War of the Worlds" was suitably terrible.

With "Pacific Rim" being a summer blockbuster about giant robots fighting giant monsters, I am ashamed that a Asylum knock-off actually surprised me.  I should have known it was coming.

It's ok Andrew.  I think they surprise us all.  The Asylum is like that friend that you have who always says something stupid at the worst possible time.  You are always surprised when he says it, even though you should have been expecting it.

The only thing I want to know about Atlantic Rim is if one of the giant monsters will be...

The Asylum makes'em quick and they make 'em cheap. They claim that they've never lost money on a film.

Asylum is shameless hustler, but it's not like they don't admit it.
Never lost money? I'd be interested to see the invoices from the effects dept.
"Hey, you can use my van to film the scene, just don't get coke on the dash, okay?"

The title is also annoying me from a geological perspective.

The name Pacific Rim comes from the deep trench that stretches north-to-south along the Pacific Ocean where old strata is forced down into the mantle. The Atlantic Ocean has a corresponding undersea mountain chain when new crust is pushed up.

If anything, this should be called Atlantic Rise or Atlantic Uplift/Atlantic Rising.

Yeah, I know.

If and when the "Pacific Rim" studio's lawyers get in touch with the Asylum, they may end up having to change the movie's title anyway. That's what happened to their "Battleship" clone ("American Battleship") last year... it suddenly became "American Warship" instead.  :teddyr:

Similarly, their "Battle: Los Angeles" wanna be "Battle Of Los Angeles" (note the "Of," people - totally different movie!) is also known as "Attack Los Angeles."

I think those actually could be good names for a movie.

It's a pity they don't use the funds and talent to create films with some originality.

Who needs originality when you have raised rip-off to an art form?

It's not as though even the big Hollywood studios have any to spare. I suppose it's crazy to expect it from creators of rubbish.

All I know is, it's probably not a good idea to grab a snake by the middle!

All of a sudden, I can imagine the separate heads taking turns eating Mexican food to get back at each other..... I'll bet that's the real reason Thulsa Dum failed. :bouncegiggle:

I'm looking at it this way.  I'm getting TWO movies about kaiju and giant robots beating each other up.  Nothing wrong with that.

They omitted the word 'Job' from the title.   :teddyr:

The speed with which The Asylum works astounds me.  But they have to be fast in order to meet the window opened by the original movie.  I wouldn't mind being a spectator to the planning and production of one of these things.

Maybe they have a giant wheel of fortune, with upcoming blockbuster titles in each section.  They spin the wheel, and whatever comes up, they make their version.
