Title: The Purge (spoilers)
Post by: BakuryuuTyranno on June 01, 2013, 03:51:13 PM
So, after the Hollywood horror highlight of the millenium - which is to say Hollywood made two genuinely scary films within a year, Sinister and Dark Skies, I was actually psyched.

I mean three scary movies within a year couldn't be asking too much, could it?

I wouldn't have gotten my hopes up if I'd known Platinum Dunes were involved.

Yes, the premise is scary. That's the only scary thing.

We're supposed to believe these are normal people outside of this one day per year.

A teenage boy tries to shoot his girlfriend's father, who forbade them from seeing each other. It might have worked if there was some emotion involved. Would've allowed the actors to act too.

Apparently this idiot thinks it wouldn't have made his girlfriend hate him.

Few parents would have the strength to save a stranger's life if it meant their children dying. That's true. These parents, however, show no emotion over decided to sacrifice said stranger.

The main antagonist shoots his own friend dead for a minor thing. If these people were normal any other day, meaning not complete psychopaths, you'd think emotion would be involved. It isn't.

The entire premise relies on how much we care about these people, while giving us no reason to care.
