Title: Shane Black - working on a Doc Savage screenplay
Post by: The Burgomaster on June 06, 2013, 11:51:42 PM
I've been a fan of those woefully cheesy Doc Savage stories from the 1930s and 40s since I was about 8 years old.  In the 1960s and 70s, Bantam Books reprinted the original pulp magazine stories in paperback book form.  They released one title every month. I was able to compile the entire collection and have been reading them from time to time.  I'm currently reading THE GOLD OGRE, which is especially silly because Doc teams up with 4 annoying teenagers who remind me of the kids from The Adventures of Spin and Marty.

There have been rumors of Doc Savage movies for years, ever since the dismal Ron Ely version that got a very limited theatrical release.  At one point, Arnold Schwarzenegger was discussed to play Doc (a horrible casting choice).  I also heard ruomors that Vin Diesel was being considered for the role (another horrible casting choice).

Anyway, here's the trailer for the Ron Ely version:

And here's the Shane Black story:
