Title: My mentor sent me a script on Friday.......
Post by: Trevor on June 10, 2013, 02:42:46 AM
The famed South African filmmaker Jans Rautenbach - one of my few mentors in life - sent me a script on Friday, asking my opinion of it. On Sunday, I finished it, emotionally wrung out. Mr R hasn't made a film since retiring in 1984 but has always claimed that he will be back: and back he is, with a story out of his own life where he gave work to a struggling artist. The artists' work remains but the artist is no more: on one horrible day, he destroyed everything in his life and then was smashed into eternity by a passing truck on the freeway :buggedout: :buggedout:

I told Mr R that when this went into production (possibly early next year) that I would give up my precious yearly leave (all 30 days of it) and take a sabbatical from work to assist him on the production in whatever capacity I could and if I knew little or nothing of the task at hand, I would learn bloody quickly.  :teddyr:

The old master of JANNIE TOTSIENS and KATRINA is back: this is good.

Exciting news, Trevor!  Mr. Rautenbach was particularly deft in his handling of the emotional story of Katrina; this new project promises to be something special as well.  I look forward to hearing about its progress.

Thanks Newt: the film is from life and is set in and around Mr R's home in the Western Cape - the script is emotional, tear-jerking and in parts, very funny. I hope that he gets his funding for it and I hope I will have some part in making it a reality as he was and remains one of the only people to tell me that I could, where others said I couldn't.  :teddyr:
