Title: Bands you wish you saw live.
Post by: crackers on July 01, 2013, 01:40:19 PM
I thought this could be an interesting thread. Bands you wish you saw live, have/are currently split up or members have died.

First on my list is The Cramps

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BB7YhbM4K80

I had my chance to see them at their last London show, but sold out and the touts were charging a small fortune. It still gets to me now.

Paul McCartney and Wings
Van Halen
Def Leppard
Ted Nugent
Tears For Fears
ABBA
Madonna

Oddly, not my favorite group of all time, the Beatles. The crowd screamed so loudly you could never hear them. If I could have sat in a corner of the studio during a recording session,however....

A band from the LA scene in the 80's that should have been WAY bigger that they were.  The one, the only, Armored Saint with "Can You Deliver"?

I wish I saw Miles Davis play before he died, even though he was a shadow of himself at the end.

I wish I saw Miles Davis play before he died, even though he was a shadow of himself at the end.
And his death was handled quite secretly.  He may have died of AIDS.

I wish I had seen THE BEATLES, THE ROLLING STONES, BLUE CHEER... but I'm too young for them, though THE STONES aren't yet ruled out.
I wish I had seen NEIL YOUNG, FRANK SINATRA, SARAH VAUGHAN, JUNE CHRISTY, but I wasn't into them enough at the time they were still performing (except NEIL YOUNG which no one I knew was interested in seeing, though he is not yet ruled out either...)
I wish I'd seen RAMONES, THE CRAMPS, PINK FLOYD, LED ZEPPELIN...

I've seen lots of bands, but there's always more I'm ready to see or would have liked to have.

Seconding Umaril's Armored Saint pick. GREAT band.

I've been fortunate enough to see most of my favorite bands at least once over the years. The one hold out I can think of off the top of my head is Helloween, who until fairly recently rarely toured the US, and even now only make occasional jumps across the ocean.

I also regret never getting to see the late, great Ronnie James Dio live in any of his bands (i.e. Rainbow, Black Sabbath, DIO, Heaven and Hell)... four or five years ago my brother and his friends were going to see the "Metal Masters" tour (Judas Priest and Heaven and Hell together) and asked if I wanted "in," but at the time I was too broke so I had to pass, saying "I'll catch 'em next time they come around"... and of course, there was no next time. I'll be kickin' myself for that one for the rest of my life.

Van Halen aren't done yet, they're currently on tour.

Pantera and Slayer for me.

This would have been a major dream....all together on one stage...

Frank Sinatra
Dean Martin
Sammy Davis Jr.

The Rat Pack was awesome!

L7 is another. I wish they would get together again.

Nirvana too. I had tickets to their UK show too just before his suicide.

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble!
I was lucky enough to see STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN in July 1990, only a few weeks before his untimely death.  SRV opened for JOE COCKER, but in trying to pin down online the likely date I saw STEVIE , I learned that they swapped opening and closing spots (which makes sense).  It was the then Garden State Arts Center (now PNC arts center) and I've seen many acts there.  But I haven't yet pinned down the likely date for one of the greatest shows I have ever seen.  Though I had a STEVIE album and loved him and his new hot coolness, I was really at that show to see JOE COCKER who was as awesome, stunning, unnerving, disgusting and thrilling as I'd hoped he would be!!  Both acts: bruising blues, stunning artistry, mesmerizing perfection.

Billy Joel
At intermission of a NY show, I slipped through a wall of huge nearly seven foot guys, put my hand on BILLY JOEL's shoulder and said to his stunned expression: "Mr. Joel, you're wonderful!"  He responded: "Uh, thank you!"

Much later I realized MR. JOEL was not happy with his flank of six HUGE bodyguards.   :teddyr:

Do bands who are still around count? For example, I'd give anything to see Killing Joke live - which is cool cause their original lineup is now recording and touring, but they'd never play in my neck of the woods.  :bluesad:
I think it would've been cool to see Cliff-era Metallica back when they were still making good music. Ah well.
I'd love to have seen Swans circa their Filth era just so I could throw up along with the rest of the crowd from the sheer volume.   I think seeing James Brown would've been awesome. I watched one of his shows on TV one night and it blew me away. Almost forgot Skinny Puppy. They're still at it, but again, never get to see them in my area.  :bluesad:
EDIT: The God Machine. Amazing overlooked band if there ever was one.

I still kick myself for turning down a chance to see U2 in Austin back in '01.

Oh yeah, baby..I got to see Metallica on the "Kill 'Em All For One" tour with NWOBHM legends Raven, with a budding young Anthrax along for the ride back in '83.  Raven was quite a deal in their day and Metallica should thank them for giving them their first big touring break.

Hey Lars, how about returning the favor to the 3 Newcastle nuts who gave you a chance?

Anyhow, another band I wish I got to see live was TANK.

Here's a whole show from 1981, enjoy!

1. Walking Barefoot Over Glass
2. Some Came Running
3. Crazy Horses - 45 Version
4. Used Leather (Hanging Loose)
5. Power Of The Hunter
6. Filth b***h Boogie

Buddy Holly

Stones just did some shows here in Philly a month ago. Ticket prices should've been lower. I am not rich.

My wife and I saw the Rolling Stones at Gillette Stadium a few years ago.  I am not a big Stones fan, but it was the greatest concert I have ever attended.
