Logan is back, bigger, more ripped and more veiny than ever!  Caught a Friday afternoon session and quite enjoyed it.

Honestly, I was expecting a bit 'more'.  Not quite sure what 'more' I was expecting, but the movie seemed a touch slow here and there, and some dialogue scenes seemed like they could have been tightened.  The action set pieces were glorious, though.  A lot of thought and effort obviously went into them, and the overall cinematography and direction was good. 

There is a post-credits scene that sets up the next X-Men movie, so stick around when the credits roll.  A few people got up and left right as the credits started, so they missed it.  Have they never watched a Marvel movie before???

Good performances by everyone concerned.  Jackman brings out a range of emotions and moods for Logan, and Rila Fukushima is very cool as Yukio.  She moves effortlessly between cute tomboy, gentle girl and focused fighter.

One thing: much of the incidental dialogue is in Japanese, with no subtitles.  And there is quite a bit of incidental dialogue.  They switch to subtitles for the stuff they really want the audience to understand.  Fortunately, I could understand most of it as it was basic conversational Japanese, but those without this knowledge would need to stretch that bit more to figure out the implied meanings.  The full extent of Japanese involvement came through in the credits, where most of the names in the Japanese unit were written in kanji!  Surprised the heck out of me!

I haven't read any of the Wolverine in Japan stories, so I came in with no preconceptions about how things 'should' have been.  I'm just enjoying the ride, and while the straight Marvel Studios films always seem to deliver the goods, the X-Men films have always had their good sides.  Another one for the blu-ray collection.

I enjoyed it too. I came in with low expectations after X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but mostly, I thought The Wolverine was good. Only stuff  didn't care for was the overbooked cluster of an ending.
