Title: Man smashes tortoise with fire extinguisher, Italian movie
Post by: Archivist on August 27, 2013, 05:58:36 AM
I don't want to see this movie again, as it is quite nasty, but I've got this morbid curiosity about it.

Italian (probably) movie, screened on World Movies on Australian Foxtel in the 90's.  Set in modern times, it is a drama involving a group of friends.  At some point in the movie, Woman tells Man A that she is breaking up with Man B.  Man B is some kind of famous performer or athlete, and Man A is furious as he thinks this will throw Man B off his game.  So furious was he, that he grabs Woman and rapes her on the floor.

At another stage in the movie, Man C keeps a pet tortoise in a desk drawer.  Another guy, maybe that horrible Man B again, is so angry that he goes to the drawer, dumps the tortoise on the floor, and then smashes it into a red pulp with the fire extinguisher.  Maybe Gaspar Noe watched this before making Irreversible.  The camera viewpoint is on the side of the fire extinguisher, so you get this nasty vision of an inexorable descent on to the shell of the tortoise.

In another scene, a man (the famous athlete Man B?) goes to a nightclub and gets oral favours from some random woman in the toilets.

Later, Man C is seen sadly burying what we assume is his tortoise, wrapped in a cloth.

Anyone have any ideas?
