Title: Robocop 3
Post by: Chainsawmidget on September 08, 2013, 12:14:00 PM
With the talk of the new Robocop remake, I thought it would be nice to go back and watch what's considered the worst movie in the series.

Honestly, I think it gets a bad rap.  Now granted, it's far less violent, and a bit more campy than the others, but I find it to be a really well done and enjoyable action movie.

I'm curious as to what others think of it.

I appreciate that Fred Dekker tried to bring the saga of OCP's foreclosure on Detroit to a conclusion.  That's about the only good thing I have to say about this movie.

I haven't seen it in a while (though I will probably re-visit it soon, as I recorded it off the Encore Action channel about a week ago) so I have only vague memories of it. From what little I can recall, I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either.

Consider me weird, but I liked it.

I don't think it's a bad movie. It just doesn't stack up to the first one. Neither did Robocop 2.

Haven't seen it in a long time but I didn't care for it.  The first two movies were dark and satirical and then the third veered off into after-school-special territory with its kind and respectful take on the plight of the poor blah blah blah.  Wasn't here a little kid who was practically a main character too?  And that big fight at the end was pure comedy.

Yeah, she was a computer hacker. At one point she re-programs an ED-209 to be "as gentle as a puppy."

I liked it.  The kid needed to go, but not a bad movie.

For better or for worse, it did do what a sequel ought to do; continued the story and provided a conclusion. It may have no been the best continuation and conclusion, but oh well. Me, I was happy to see that Johnson made it. The scene where he and Rip Torn book it out of the building was funny.

Also, thanks, Trevor. I'll try and hang around a little more this time. :)

My drinking game for Robocop 3 consists of downing a shot everytime he gets knocked on his back and/or ass in the film during pretty much every battle.

There is one scene in "RC3" that I've always liked: when RoboCop walks into the police station with his nifty flame-thrower attachment arm installed and asks the desk sergeant where the "Rehab" (mercenaries hired by OCP) staging area is.

The sergeant directs him "Down the hall, first door on the right," and Robo sez:

"Thank you. (Pause)...You may want to call the fire department."

...there's just something about that pause that kills me every time.

I'm not sure if I've even seen RC3, but isn't that where he flies?

And why does Nancy Allen in the Robocop 3 trailer make me think of 80's porn, even though she's not an adult actress?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that RC3 is the one with airborne Robocop! As for Nancy Allen the sexpot, maybe her quite entertaining role as the slutty villain bad girl in Carrie with Sissy Spacek has something to do with it. She just has that "look" about her in that movie. Everytime I watch Carrie, I think "Louis! Don't worry, they'll fix you. They fix everything."

I liked the original film a lot and I agree with many who think it was one of the best movies of 1987. The second was okay though not as fun for me as the first. My biggest problem with the third film was the disappointing absense of Peter Weller who I think was Robocop.

It's okay I suppose. They just made it too toned-down and campy for my taste, though some action scenes were pretty well done.
