Title: THE BLACK WATERS OF ECHO'S POND (2009)
Post by: indianasmith on September 14, 2013, 11:03:25 PM
A team of archeologists in 1927 unearth an ancient Temple of Pan.  Contained therein are instructions on how to create a gateway to the realm of Pandemonium, where the souls of the damned are tortured for the entertainment of demons.  The archeologists take the carving to a remote island off the coast of main, where they create the apparatus for the ritual - which involved moving tokens around an elaborate board and drawing and reading cards, then doing what they say.  The archeologists play the game and are driven mad, all of them winding up dead.
Fast forward 80 years.  A group of college friends are staying at an island cottage for a long weekend; when the lights go out they start searching for breakers in the basement and find this really ancient and cool-looking board game, and decide to give it a play.

Innocent enough at first, but the instructions on the cards gradually draw out all the buried jealousies, hostilities, desires, and frustrations from the group, and soon murderous rage and lust seizes them all.  As the mocking face of Pan watches from the shadows, the friends slowly destroy each other.

This is a cool little movie with a neat twist ending.  I really enjoyed it.

When
I googled this title, I found that the director's name was Gabriel
Bologna - I caught myself hoping that he wasn't a distant relation of
the Polonia brothers. ;). This looks good.
