Title: Out Of Work In Two Weeks
Post by: tracy on October 08, 2013, 03:43:16 PM
My sister and I went in on Monday to pick up our checks and the boss cashed them as usual....then called us into the office. Mary asked if we were in trouble and he said,"Sort of." He informed us that the store wasn't making any money,he couldn't sell the place and the majority owner refused to buy him out. So he was giving us two weeks then we were fired. He said he was bringing his Dad and wife in to run the place...even though his wife has 3 kids to take care of,two are in school and they live at least 45 miles away. This was a very disappointing though not completely unexpected blow. Over the 7+ years he has owned the store it has gone from the most popular and profitable convenience store in town to an overpriced dump that does easily 1/4 the business we used to. He and the dad have been so very rude to people and neither one seems to bathe too often so folks have left us in droves. The ones who have kept coming say they only come in when they are gone....the dad cheats people on change and tends to steal lottery winnings by telling folks their tickets are losers. This place is gonna crumble quickly.....but as I am gonna be looking for a job in a small, economically depressed area that seems to be all I can worry about.
Keep your fingers crossed for me if you don't mind.

My fingers are crossed.  When one door closes, another opens.

If two people love and believe in one another almost anything is possible.
Maybe Indiana has an idea there with relocation.   You've complained about that job before; it sucked.  Good riddance.

Wasn't that the same place you worked before or something? http://www.badmovies.org/forum/index.php/topic,140297.0.html

THAT is wisdom, that place was poison.

There are times when you just have to get out of a situation that's going into the toilet.  I've been there.  If you're pretty sure you can't get another job in your area, you may have to think about relocation.  Whatever the case, a change of scenery can only do you good.  Good luck!

Make sure you get something in writing.
I've been screwed out of unemployment benefits in the past because my boss TOLD me I was fired, then turned around & told the unemployment office that I had quit without notice.

On another matter, I needed a letter from her boss, signed, that stated that her services were no longer required; we have copies.

Well, on the plus side, you won't have to deal with such a bad boss anymore.  I wish you luck!

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. Yes,that's the same job I've spoken of before and I'm thinking it is good riddance. Unfortunately, the work opportunities around here stink so Indy might have a suggestion. Also,I do have it in writing and signed that I was dismissed and didn't quit.....in fact,we thought of that first. Then Social Security asked for a signed document so he reluctantly gave me one. I'm keeping positive so far.
