Post by: claws on November 01, 2013, 09:43:08 AM
IMDb currently lists a total of 16,722 Feature Films rated between 4.0 - 4.9. The idea of this thread is to talk about favorite or non-favorite movies with these IMDb ratings only.

Based on IMDb voting counts, these are the ten most voted (popular) feature films:

01. (4.5 / 171,540 votes) - The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)
02. (4.8 / 136,137 votes) - The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010)
03. (4.7 / 133,519 votes) - The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011)
04. (4.6 / 103,376 votes) - Wild Wild West (1999)
05. (4.9 / 086,619 votes) - 10,000 BC (2008)

07. (4.7 / 081,241 votes) - Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (2003)
08. (4.9 / 075,343 votes) - After Earth (2013)

Wild Wild West - the robot spider looked kind of cool.  Other than that it really didn't do anything for me.

10,000 BC - the 2008 AD CGI action movie cliche crapola really made it feel authentic.  I seem to have all my memories of it mixed up with that Conan remake - it was just that memorable.

AvP Requiem - I thought they couldn't make a movie worse that AvP but they proved me wrong.    You take a couple franchises made for adults and try to morph them into something for little kids who wonder if an Alien can beat up a Predator...you end up with s*** like this.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 - The only Twilight movie on the list that I've seen. Terrible, boring, but wonderful with the Rifftrax.
The Last Airbender - Makes me wish I was watching the cartoon.
After Earth - Your stupid accents didn't make your movie any better, Shamalamadingdong.

Haven't seen any of the Twilight movies, After Earth, The Last Airbender, or Skyline.

10,000 BC is one I liked.  Because I like prehistoric animal movies.  The interesting thing about it is that after the movie was made it was discovered that while the pyramids where being built, there were still mammoths living in a small island in Russia. So that part of the movie is somewhat historically accurate.

Watched about 10 minutes of Charlie's Angels movie before turning it off.

Wild Wild West was ok.

I liked 10,000 B.C.  In terms of plot and pacing, it reminded me of the epic movies they were making in the late 50's early 60's.  I guess people don't go for that kind of story telling anymore. :/

Wild Wild West is one of my favorite summer popcorn fests because it's so cheesy. I'm probably the only person who can appreciate the 80 foot tall mechanized tarantula. I built a scale model of it out of K'nex once, that was an awesome summer.

I liked the mythology that 10,000 BC created. History buffs and people who take things too seriously need not apply. I went to see ancient man fight megafauna and do awesome stuff and that's what I got.

AVPR: Aliens vs Predator - Requiem was too poorly lit and horribly written. The focus should be on the aliens and the predator hunting them but that's no excuse to make the human characters so atrociously cardboard-flavored. I did think that the Predalien's method of implanting eggs was properly unsettling thought so it got a point. Could have been better.

I liked the concept of the aliens in Skyline. I liked their technology and I liked their design. I did not like the human story focusing on marital bickering, kindly remove that from my scifi action movie about killer brain-eating aliens, please. Those annoying humans even leave the movie open to the idea of a sequel, something I doubt I'll see any time soon. It's technically not even an ending scene, either, it's a closing credit montage. I wasn't too cool with that, no matter how epic it looked.

Seems that 1-10 didn't do a thing for me. As for those painful "Twilight" films I've seen all the first and 1/2 the second....then I got therapy.

We don't have to focus on movies listed by claws; any 4-4.9 star movie would be good.  Let's see:

Pokemon 4Ever (4.5 stars) If I remember correctly, this is the lowest rated Pokemon movie, but it's the one I like the most. The reviews say that it's too slow, but I don't mind that.  It creates a sense of wonder the other ones lack.

Planet of [the] Dinosaurs (4 stars) Watchable, if only for the beautiful stop-motion.  Mute the TV when they're climbing the hill; your ears will thank you.

The Day Time Ended (4.3) Apparently, Charles Band wanted to test various FX techniques, and this is the result.  Cool, if you like traditional FX.

That is correct Sir. Basically anything goes. Here's another list focusing on the 1980s only:

02. (4.3 / 25,842 votes) - Howard the Duck (1986)
03. (4.4 / 23,611 votes) - Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol (1987)
04. (4.8 / 23,297 votes) - Police Academy 3: Back in Training (1986)
05. (4.6 / 22,886 votes) - The Karate Kid, Part III (1989)
06. (4.7 / 22,455 votes) - Red Sonja (1985)
07. (4.2 / 21,368 votes) - Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
08. (4.9 / 20,983 votes) - A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child (1989)

Howard the Duck (1986)- Howard never gets any respect  :bouncegiggle:  I thought this movie was a lot of fun.
Red Sonja (1985) - haven't seen that in ages, but I remember liking it.  I don't know what I'd think of it now though.
Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) - One of my favorites
Cyborg (1989) - this is another favorite.  Wasn't anything special about it, but I guess I liked the atmosphere or something.

"Superman III"-It was so-so....I thought Richard Pryor wasn't really necessary

"Howard the Duck"-Wow! I didn't seriously hate it but it sure was weird!

"Red Sonja"-One of my favorite little films that was kinda hokey but a lot of fun.

"Popeye"-I was pretty skeptical about this movie. Robin Williams as Popeye? Luckily I was very pleasantly suprized and Shelley Duval as Olive Oil was inspired! It looked neat and was a fun film.
