I remember being eight and rushing my homework on a Saturday in order to ride my bike to the cinema and see this: I arrived a little late just to see Charles Bronson getting caught cheating in a poker game and having his ass handed to him by an angry local in the bustling metropolis of Myrtle - a bustling metropolis in that it has both a bar and a whorehouse.  :buggedout:

I liked the film, the score by Jerry Goldsmith as well as the cinematography by Lucien Ballard and the stunts by Yakima Canutt. The film still holds up after all these years and is hard to define other than saying it is a Western / crime / murder mystery.  :smile:

I'm always glad to see CHARLES BRONSON in a movie (except maybe those early ones where he's credited as BUCHINSKY).

I bought this DVD a few years ago and I really enjoyed it.  It may be time for a repeat viewing.

Missed it when it was in theaters, but I did catch it, when it was on TV.

2 reasons to see it.

1st the cast . . .
charles bronson -- ben johnson -- richard crenna -- jill ireland --  charles durning -- ed lauter -- bill mckinney -- david huddleston -- robert tessier -- archie moore -- sally kirkland -- eddie little sky -- and john mitchum (robert mitchum's younger brother)

They don't cast movies like that any more.

2nd reason . . .
based upon the book by Alistair MacLean. While the author is mainly known for his war novels and adventure novels, this is his attempt to write a western. And the book is not that bad. And, oh yes, the author also wrote the screenplay for the film.

What should come first? The book or the film?
If one has not seen the film, I'd see that first, then read the book, as the book gives away alot of the twists in the film. Enjoy both!

Wait a second . . . isn't this the sequel to BROKEARSE MOUNTAIN?
