Title: RIP Peter O' Toole
Post by: ER on December 15, 2013, 01:47:34 PM
A fine actor from a pre-CGI era of cinematic greatness that will likely never come again.

He was a great and versatile actor who brought a touch of class to every role he played.

My favorite movie of his was The Last Emperor (1987). I watched it at a young age, and found myself watching it more than once, even though I should have been bored out of my mind due to the pace of the film, I loved O'Toole's performance (among many other things) and how he acted as a kind of surrogate father toward the young Emperor of China. Rest in peace, Mr. O'Toole. You should have been knighted as a Sir.

Condolences to his family, particularly his daughter Plenty, who starred in a James Bond film. (Oh, c'mon, Peter O'Toole would've liked that....)

Agreed, but in a career that lasted from 1956 to 2013, he transcended both eras: both the pre-CGI era and the CGI era, for one of his greatest roles was as Anton Ego the French food critic in the Disney/Pixar CGI animated "Ratatouille" from 2007. He will be missed, and R.I.P. Peter.

And, oh yes, we have one more chance to see him in a new role, as his his last role is as Gallus in "Katherine of Alexandria," which was scheduled to be released this year, but more likely will be released next year in 2014.
