Title: SOLVED: World War II movie with Partisans vs. Nazis in it
Post by: zelmo73 on May 01, 2014, 10:23:03 AM
Another ghost from my childhood; they used to show a lot of cool movies on late Saturday night TV! Anyway, I can't tell the name of the main actor, only that he reminds me of Robert Shaw though that is not him.

I don't remember much of the plot, other than that the main character is running from the Germans or trapped behind enemy lines in perhaps Italy or Spain or some place like that. He recruits a bunch of kids to fight the Nazis with him as partisans. There is some big battle at the end where this guy and these kids defeat the Germans. Everyone is celebrating their victory, including this one older kid who resembles Davy Jones from The Monkees, who is overjoyed and shouting "I'm going to go and tell everybody how I killed 20 Nazis!"

The main character tells him that killing is wrong or something, and that this is nothing to celebrate about. The kid gets into a fit of rage as the main character is walking toward him. The kid is p**sed that he is being told that celebrating killing Nazis is wrong (big moral to the story here), then picks up stones and starts throwing them at the main character. One stone smacks the main character in the head and bloodies him, but he is still walking toward the kid with a compassionate look in his eyes, as if he feels guilty about turning this poor innocent kid into a Nazi-killing war machine. The kid finally breaks down in tears, and the main character picks him up and carries him back to where the other kids are celebrating, then lectures them about the evil that men do or something. And then that's it, I believe the movie ends right there.

Does this movie description ring a bell with anyone in here? If so, I would appreciate your input, because this actually sounds like a great war movie and I would like to see it again!

That would be HORNETS' NEST ('70) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065850/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065850/).

You are correct, sir! Thank you so much: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hornets%E2%80%99_Nest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hornets%E2%80%99_Nest)

How in the heck did Rock Hudson remind me of Robert Shaw though, I wonder? The two men looked nothing alike.  :bouncegiggle:
