I get violent mood swings, I have bad depression and I have almost constant suicidal urges: all this from thyroid meds! I don't know what the hell is going on with me. :bluesad:

You need to see your doctor.  He might can do some adjustments to get rid of those side effects.

I agree with Indy, tell your doctor exactly what's happening and see what he recommends.

Yup, agree with Indy and the Rev., tell your doctor what's happening and see if he can adjust the dosage or prescribe a different medication that doesn't have the side effects.

Trevor, I don't know about the medication you're taking but to normalize thyroid function in either a hyper or hypo state, increase iodine intake. Try adding powdered kelp into your diet, or for about fifteen dollars US order Lugol's solution, which for 180 years has been recognized as a safe way of receiving large amounts of iodine. The thyroid needs iodine to function.

Go see the doctor sooner if you keep feeling this way.

Having a reaction to medication can really upset everything you feel.  I've seen people have psychotic episodes, depression, and engage in self-injury due to medications.  Once the problem was figured out and the medication stopped, and had time to clear their system, they went right back to feeling their normal selves.

Thanks, BrotherAndrew: the thing with me was that I was feeling "off" - but not ill - from about October last year. A few tests later, my doctor told me that my thyroid was inactive and this was making me feel like a pile of #2 now and then. She put me on these meds - one tablet per day - which work OK for a while and then I get panic attacks, intense paranoia and suicidal thoughts.

No way am I staying much longer on these bloody things: the same things happened with my anti-depression meds and those got flushed down the toilet in 2009.

I stopped taking the second batch of meds - Eltroxin or something like that - they made me feel even sicker than the first lot.  :tongueout:

I thought: I feel OK when I am not on meds so why be on the things? Yesterday I walked almost ten miles to work (no buses) and all that ached after that were my feet. If I am so sick as my doctor claims, why do I have a lot of energy?

Nah: the hell with the meds - I take vitamins, natural supplements, don't smoke, don't drink, get exercise and try and eat correctly. I am not sick.  :teddyr:

I take thyroid meds too,Trev-I take Levothyroxine-they keep my s**t balanced. No side affects at all.
I am depressed and suicidal-but no more than I have always been.  :lookingup:

Trevor, if you don't mind, could you list the medications the doctor is pushing at you?

Basic thyroid medication shouldn't cause you the trouble you are having unless they are overdosing you. It sounds like they may be giving you something else that is having a bad interaction. Either that, or they need to do a more thorough blood test, serum and whole blood. Based on what you are saying about your side effects indicates something else is out of whack in your blood chemistry and the thyroid medication is exacerbating issues.

But remember: it's never lupus. (Sorry, had to toss in some House humor.)

I can't remember the first batch of meds I was put on but the second batch was Eltroxin: both of these were worse than the other.

I am also supposed to be on meds for anxiety and depression so I would be taking too many meds which would most likely work against each other in trying to bring my moods under control and in all seriousness, I would probably get addicted and wind up in a bad way or worse.

No: other than vitamins, exercise, no smoking, no drinking, no boom boom with soul brother or sister, no more meds for me.  :teddyr:

Indications are that your thyroid med is too high of a dose, or you could be having a reaction to certain ingredients in the pills.

As far as anxiety pills...umm, send them to me. God knows I go through what my doctor prescribes without much relief.

Or send them too me-and I'll take them to just get high-or sell them to hillbilly drug addicts.

Not trying to be a drama queen, but it will sound like it.

I'm in a really deep, deep, dark hole with now idea which way is up. So many factors causing this. I don't want a hero. I just need a voice of reasoning to give me a sense of direction so I can climb out of this pit. I don't like the person I have become in here.

Not sure if my meds are making things worse or better.

I'm not certain how you are feeling, Java. If it's one of those times when it seems like the problem is too big, or what you want to change is an impossibly huge task, I always suggest picking a small part and working on that.

Even just spending 10 minutes a day on the problem is progress. If you have to dig a hole, but only have a spoon - then it might take a while, but it will get done. If you never start, you will never finish.

I just need to figure which way to the surface at this point.

Not gonna give in, but getting older makes it harder to muster up the energy.
