Title: 13 Questions About Death
Post by: ER on June 18, 2014, 11:47:45 PM
I was getting ready to go to bed and saw someone had sent me this, so I filled it out.

13 Questions About Death

1. Have you ever seen someone die in person?
No.

2. How do you think you’ll die/how do you want to die?
A stroke. During a beautiful dream.

3. What’s the best song about death?
Welcome to the Black Parade, by My Chemical Romance.

4. What’s the best poem about death?
Thanatopsis, by William Cullen Bryant.

5. Has someone ever walked on your grave?
Good question.

6. Would you rather mourn your loved ones or be mourned by them?
Be mourned.

7. Is it OK to be drunk at a funeral?
I wouldn’t do it but lots of Irish people sure do.

8. What do you want done with your dead body/what do you think will be done with your dead body?
I’d like to be in the open under a big clear bright skylight in a sunny, pleasant library-like space that no one would ever visit, sealed-in, and except for night it’d never be dark and all the space surrounding me would be open for many yards all around. But I expect I’ll just be buried someplace.

9. Is there life after death?
Despite myself my instincts say that there probably is.

10. Have you ever seen a ghost?
Isn’t it funny how no one ever asks if we’ve smelled a ghost? I don’t think so but there’s that 1995 nursing home story. So whatever.

11. What would make you commit suicide?
The motivation would have to be almost too extreme to think about.

12. Who was the first person you loved who died?
My grandmother.

13. Thinking about the fact that you WILL die, how does it make you feel?
More relieved than it used to. I suspect in some ways death ultimately comes as something of a blessing to most of us because it can free us from immediate pain, or in contemplation at least it can give us some hope of a chance of reuniting with lost loved ones, or at the very least it removes us from an era which is no longer our own when our time has gone and life has passed us by.

1. Have you ever seen someone die in person?
No.

2. How do you think you’ll die/how do you want to die?
Peacefully in my sleep.  (And not yelling and screaming like the passenger in my car  :bouncegiggle: )

3. What’s the best song about death?
Don't Close Your Eyes by Kix

4. What’s the best poem about death?
Poem?  Those are those things that rhyme, right?

5. Has someone ever walked on your grave?
Not yet.

6. Would you rather mourn your loved ones or be mourned by them?
That's tough.  I'd like them to live as long as possible, but on the other hand I don't think my wife would enjoy life much if she was alone.

7. Is it OK to be drunk at a funeral?
Not at the funeral itself, but definitely at the luncheon afterward.

8. What do you want done with your dead body/what do you think will be done with your dead body?
I want a nice casket buried on a sunny hillside in a peaceful cemetery.

9. Is there life after death?
Nope

10. Have you ever seen a ghost?
Nope

11. What would make you commit suicide?
Immaturity, which I've hopefully outgrown.  Or if I was like 100 years old and senile and completely immobile or something.

12. Who was the first person you loved who died?
My grandpa on my mom's side.  He was a good ol' German farmer and we spent a lot of time together.

13. Thinking about the fact that you WILL die, how does it make you feel?
Indifferent.  It's inevitable so there's not much point worrying about it.  I just hope I don't end up suffering helplessly in a nursing home for years before the end eventually comes.

1. Have you ever seen someone die in person?
No.

2. How do you think you’ll die/how do you want to die?
Not sure, I try not to think about it. I only hope it's peaceful.

3. What’s the best song about death?
Open Casket by Death. It reflects how I felt about being at my first funeral and the anxiety and fear I felt as I had to approach the altar and realize that my loved one was gone forever.

4. What’s the best poem about death?
Not sure, haven't really read any about the subject.

5. Has someone ever walked on your grave?
Not on my grave, but in life I've been walked over a few times.

6. Would you rather mourn your loved ones or be mourned by them?
You don't know what (or who) you had until it\they are gone, so I'd like to be mourned. It would be nice if just one person missed me in my life, which I don't think will ever happen.

7. Is it OK to be drunk at a funeral?
No. You are there to honor the passing of a loved one, not to fulfill your own desires.

8. What do you want done with your dead body/what do you think will be done with your dead body?

I don't think I'll be there for it, because hell is almost full, so you know what they say about what is going to happen when there's no more room in hell...

9. Is there life after death?
In a George Romero movie, yes.  :twirl:   And if you talk about the real afterlife, I'd have to say yes because you can't really say no. The best answer is, is that we'll all find out for ourselves one day...

10. Have you ever seen a ghost?
Not to my recollection. But just because one cannot see something, doesn't mean it's not there.

11. What would make you commit suicide?
Never crossed my mind.

12. Who was the first person you loved who died?
My grandmother.

13. Thinking about the fact that you WILL die, how does it make you feel?

As each one of us has to face death alone, it also makes me fearful. But, in some ways, I'm relieved, knowing all pain and suffering will be gone.

However, knowing that I'll no longer around to see how the future advances on all fronts (societal, technological, games, ect.) will be my biggest regret.  Let's face it, all us gamers want to be around when Assassin's Creed 30: Nursing Home comes out.  :tongueout:

Fire and Ice by Robert Frost

1. Have you ever seen someone die in person?
Yes

GRAVE ROBBER by Petra

Yes, there is a heaven and I am going there.

10. Have you ever seen a ghost?
No.  I don't think they exist.

My grandmother, when I was 7.

13. Thinking about the fact that you WILL die, how does it make you feel?
Mortal.  Or was that too obvious . . . . ?

The Carriage held but just Ourselves –
And Immortality.

We slowly drove – He knew no haste
And I had put away
My labor and my leisure too,
For His Civility –

We passed the School, where Children strove
At Recess – in the Ring –
We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain –
We passed the Setting Sun –

Or rather – He passed us –
The Dews drew quivering and chill –
For only Gossamer, my Gown –
My Tippet – only Tulle –

We paused before a House that seemed
A Swelling of the Ground –
The Roof was scarcely visible –
The Cornice – in the Ground –

Since then – ‘tis Centuries – and yet
Feels shorter than the Day
I first surmised the Horses’ Heads
Were toward Eternity –
