RIP Mr. Williams.

One of the most recognized actors and comedians in the world has passed.

This is miserable news.

Were it not for Mork From Ork, I never would have learned the Vulcan Peace Sign...

Wow... sad and unexpected. He made some bad movies but he was clearly a comedy genius in stand-up.

I know...I have his albums in my iTunes library.  I think the time has arrived to put them on my iPhone and play them in his memory.

I guess it is too much to hope it wasn't a suicide.

My kid just posted that on Facebook. I thought it was crap and looked it up because Robin Williams and suicide didn't seem to fit together. I'm really bummed out about this.

Apparently he had been battling depression for years.
It's a devastating mental illness that is almost impossible to beat without meds,
and sometimes even with them.
RIP, Robin, and thanks for the many, many laughs.

Depression is a b***h and it's a lifelong struggle.

Generally those cracking wise the loudest are crying the most inside. 

This certainly sucks.  Robin Williams was one of the funniest people on the planet.  

I watched so many of his movies growing up, and his stand up, and TV appearances... I can't believe he's gone.  

And I haven't even gotten over Harold Raimis dying yet.  

Seems like a lot of entertainers/comedians deal with hard-core depression. It's so sad that they seem to feel there's no other solution than suicide.
This interview he gave to Marc Maron, a few years ago, is definitely worth a listen. It's pretty insightful. RIP

Something about looking over the cracks of the abyss gives some people deep insight into humor.  It's a terrible irony.

Ugh, I grew up loving Popeye and I've enjoyed many of his other movies (I think Patch Adams kinda stinks but he's not bad in it at all).  Watched The Fisher King a little while ago and I was pretty weepy through much of it.  Such a sad way to lose the man.

This hits me pretty hard, as I have had to deal with substance abuse and depression, myself.  I can only hope that Mr. Williams finally escaped whatever demons were haunting him.

Pretty much explains me, as well.

He was always a favourite actor for me. So many moving performances, so many funny ones. The clown who's crying on the inside...

RIP Robin Williams

Australian TV is burning with constant reports about Robin Williams, and starting to show movies like Mrs Doubtfire already.  A truly great comic genius.  I first saw him in Mork and Mindy, and followed him through many movies including The Dead Poets Society and The Fisher King.  His interviews with Australian talk show hosts were amazingly funny and off the wall.  In his passing, he will have the peace he was obviously seeking.

My three favorite memories of him:

His appearance as the disgraced psychiatrist Dr Cozy Carlyle in Kenneth Branagh's Dead Again (1991): his first words in the film are "F*** you: I'm on a break."  :buggedout:

His appearance on stage with FIFA President Sepp Blatter during the run up to the USA Soccer World Cup: when the President handed over to him, he said "Thank you, Mr Bladder."  :bouncegiggle:

When he won an Oscar for Good Will Hunting, he thanked the Rabbi offstage - actually it was Billy Crystal standing there.  :teddyr:

I think I am more shocked about how sad I am over this... I just cannot get his passing out of my head.  I thought he was hilarious and he has such a kind face.  I certainly hope he has found peace and is making the other side a funnier place.

My problem is that I really don't appreciate people till they're dead.

But . . .?! Having said that . . .?!

Here's a story, probably apocryphal, but it does speak to so many funny people.

A man went to a doctor.
"Doctor, I am so sad, and I do not know what to do."
"All you need to do is to find someone who'll make you laugh. Go see the great clown Grimaldi, who is playing in this city. He'll cure you of your sadness."
"Doctor, I am Grimaldi."

R.I.P. Robin. You will be missed.

In a bit of irony, I've had a relative watching Moscow on the Hudson every day for a week before he passed. 

ROBIN WILLIAMS died the same night as my sister-in-law.  I have not been able to process his loss, a major talent and genius is gone now.  We miss you ROBIN.
