What does the Preamble to the United States Constitution look like in other languages?  Well I got a little bored today so I decided to find out.

Here's what comes out if you translate it into Italian, then German, then French, then Spanish, then Ukrainian, then Greek, then back into English:

We the people of the United States is a more perfect Union, establish justice, inner peace, the common defense, promote the general welfare and the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States.

That's really much, much better than I would have guessed.

Here's how it reads in Afrikaans, my other native tongue:

Ons, die mense van die Verenigde State van Amerika, ten einde 'n meer volmaakte Unie te vorm, vestig Justisie, verseker huishoudelike Tranquility, voorsiening te maak vir die gemeenskaplike verdediging, die bevordering van die algemene welsyn, en veilige die seëninge van Liberty aan onsself en ons nageslag, nie georden en vestig die Grondwet vir die Verenigde State van Amerika.

I see they don't know what the Afrikaans translation of tranquility is (it is 'rustigheid') and also this isn't exactly grammatically correct.  :smile:
