First day of college. Real college not some spec. ed garbage.

There's a guy here named Logan. His parents named him after Wolverine so that's cool.
The person next to me is Arab and she's having trouble spelling, but I'm going to help her.
It's nice meeting such a big variety of people.

The class is English 1110. It's a college in downtown so this is the first time I've taken a bus to school. My Mom escorted me this time but I'll be alone from now on.

Any of you guys have college stories?

College stories, huh?

Well, my dad calls the summer before I went to college the time I "ran away from home" because in June '97, after telling my friends and family I was going to take a road trip, from their perspective I kind of all but vanished off the earth till late August and scared everyone half to death, just sent post cards home, skipped out of the university I was supposed to attend, and enrolled myself in another school where I had no connections whatsoever and chose almost on a whim.

That was a great time, though, that summer and into my first semester, but also rough. I slept in my car a bunch, went places, met people, even spent a short time on the Appalachian Trail in New England (I woke up one morning to hearing Princess Diana had died) and when I found a roommate at the start of school, I slept in a sleeping bag on the floor of my room for a while because I'd left my bed and everything back home, lol.

I transferred some of my scholarships so my tuition was covered, but I was so broke those first weeks I remember I'd look forward to Sample Fridays at the local grocery store because they had food, lol. I don't think my roommate and her friends quite knew what to make of me but the conclusions they drew were a lot different than the way I'd been thought of back in my preppy Catholic high school in the Midwest, where I was viewed entirely differently. Starting over like that was interesting.

Honestly?  If I was independently wealthy I would probably go to college for the rest of my life.  I'd take a class or two every semester.  And I would definitely finish my film degree.  I was a film major at Boston University for a year and a half, but I left because the school was too expensive.  Then I just worked retail jobs for about 3 years.  After that I went to Salem State College on a scholarship that paid my entire tuition.  I just had to pay for books.  I got an accounting degree and became a CPA.  A few years later, I enrolled as a film major in the adult degree program at Emerson College and took night classes after work.  They transferred a lot of credits from my previous schools.  I ended up leaving my job and my new job was too far from Emerson, so I never finished my remaining classes.  I think I needed about 9 more classes to get my film degree.  Maybe some day.

I studied here: www.tut.ac.za (http://www.tut.ac.za) and I was called The Satanist because.... gasp, shock, horror: I wore a lot of black (still do) and that I liked horror movies and books. Never mind the fact that I have religious beliefs, was baptized and didn't puke on the minister when he splashed water on me.  :wink:

That's exactly what our oldest daughter is doing LOL.  Oh well as long as she's happy  :smile:

All I remember from college is the pretty girls and spending about 10 hours a day doing homework.  And forgetting 99% of it the day after the exam.

Don't forget to buy an escalator key.

I would definitely be one of those who would go to college forever if I could. I was good at school; I made As and Bs without really trying and had a great time learning. I wasn't a party guy by any means; I just loved the classroom.

As for specific college stories, most of mine are pretty tame. I went to grad school in Kansas, and I remember the first time it snowed while I was there. Being from South Texas, I had only seen snow once before. Still, I bundled up and walked a mile or so down to the convenience store to get my Dr Pepper. You can't keep a Texas boy from his Dr Pepper. Anyway, I was wearing a ski mask and a scarf in addition to the rest of my winter wear. When I got to the door of the store, I started thinking about the stupidity of walking into a convenience store in a ski mask, so I took it off. The guy working the counter thanked me profusely for doing so. Apparently, I scared him. Plus, I got to finally say I walked a mile to school in the snow  :teddyr: .

Good luck,  the greatest educational value of attending college, at least for me, was meeting different people from all over the country and in some cases from other countries.   :thumbup: :thumbup:


Now, if you could just say it was uphill, both ways.
