Title: SIN CITY 2: A DAME TO KILL FOR
Post by: Rev. Powell on August 27, 2014, 09:00:07 AM
Three more stories from Frank Miller's "Sin City": a gambler (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) takes on a corrupt senator in a card game; P.I. Dwight (Josh Brolin) falls for a dame from his past (Eva Green), who's now married to a millionaire; and stripper Nancy (Jessica Alba) struggles to find the courage to avenge Hartigan (Bruce Willis). Although the stylistic novelty is gone, A DAME TO KILL FOR recreates the look and mood of the first film almost exactly, and should be a thrill for fans. 3.5/5.

*Mickey Rourke's Marv (the most popular character from the first installment) is back and plays a supporting role in two out of three stories; he gets top billing.
*Eva Green's nude scenes are worth the price of admission.
*Possibly reacting to criticism of the first film, the female characters are better written in this one, and more of a match for the males.
*Both critics and audiences seem to be lukewarm to negative on this, but I'm not completely sure why. My theory is that it's just a case of timing: making a sequel nine years after the original isn't exactly a case of striking while the iron is hot. At this point most of the potential audience has either lost interest or has allowed their expectations to get way out of control. But, I think that if you played this back to back with the original you would hardly notice any difference in style. Bottom line, if you liked the original, you should like this one.

Eva Green is enough to get me interested.
