Title: Bummer! (1973)
Post by: Javakoala on August 31, 2014, 06:41:14 PM
This is a tragic tale of why you should never, EVER leave out your mommy-obsessed. impotent, obnoxious, porcine bass player when rounding up needy groupies to have casual sex with.

This is a hard film to watch. Not because of the violence against women. Yes, there is plenty of that, on top of presenting women as idiots willing to be treated like trash just to hang out with a go-nowhere rock band whose music sucks the muffler of a poorly running Edsel. But because...well, hell, folks, it's kinda boring and meandering.

Oh, and if you don't want to have a clue about the ending of this thing, don't watch the final seconds of the trailer.

If you DO watch it, look for Dave Friedman in a bit role towards the end of the film. Yes, he has his signature cigar.

By the by, this trailer is seriously NSFW. You've been warned.

This movie was really hard to watch for the reasons you mentioned however Dennis Burkley did one hell of a job in playing one of the sleaziest and most hated characters in a Friedman produced film ever. The beautiful Leslie McRay (Girl in Gold Boots, Death Race 2000) makes an appearance in this one also.

If you catch this movie from the SWV double feature I will say that "Johnny Firecloud" is by far the better of the two films. Way better.

Oh, hell, yes, Johnny Firecloud is Oscar material compared to Bummer! Firecloud had a slick, commercial look to it and then whacked you upside the head with sleaze, gore and other juicy exploitation items. I bought the double-feature disc for JF but figured I'd watch Bummer! It took three sittings to get through it.
