Title: WITHER GOEST DC ANIMATION?
Post by: alandhopewell on September 16, 2014, 10:55:54 AM
I was watching clips from a recent JUSTICE LEAGUE video; profanity, goriness, i.e. Darkseid is defeated by having his eyes gouged out, graphically, by Wonder Woman and The Flash.

Is this sort of thing REALLY necessary?
No, I'm not asking for a "return of the Superfriends", or any such thing, but in what way does this add to a good story?
The tv programs and earlier videos didn't resort to such cheap attempts at "edginess".

     What say you?

Yeah, the Batman franchise is going in that direction too.  Not my cup of plasma either.

About three years ago, the DC comic universe underwent a reboot called Flashpoint.  The end result included several major changes to many characters and settings of DC comics including but not limited too:

-superheroes had only just became known to the public in the past 5 years
-many characters seemingly being erased fro existence
-Wonder Woman is now the daughter of Zeus
-Wonder Woman and Superman are now dating
and in general a darker tone.  This was cemented when editor-in-cheif of DC comics Did Didio said something along the lines of "Superheroes should not be happy".

The movie that this clip is from is, from what I've heard, just the retelling of the JLA rebooted series first issues.

I miss the old DCU.  The recent reboot really robbed it of its sense of fun and history.  And the Bruce Tim DCAU is still the best super hero cartoon ever.

I hate the changes they've made to DC comics characters, killing off or crippling the old ones and replacing them with new ones...ick! But actually it's not new...they did this with Batman (Azrael) , Green Lantern (Kyle Raynor), Flash (Wally West, actually him I do like), Blue Beetle (Jamie Reyes), etc., etc., etc. In most cases, I greatly prefer the original version of the character...Marvel actually does a better job of staying true to its characters although they do wild changes with them (Punisher turned black, Wolverine bone claws, etc.) at times (although apparently there's a female version of Thor now...I do not like this)

(Sigh)...remind you of the Star Trek franchise?
Any new group of creative people, who are expected to work on other peoples creative product, always want to tamper and say 'Well, this is how I would have done it...even thought someone else gave it to me to see in the first place."

Creative egos are like that, I guess.
