Title: Ever hated a film so much.....
Post by: Trevor on October 09, 2014, 04:22:01 AM
...that you threw it away?

The two I did this with are the horror that is Diana and The Adventures of Tintin: the former was OK in parts but I am a Tintin fanboy and I hated the latter.

What was it you hated so much about the Tintin movie? In America we have only limited exposure to Tintin's adventures; I haven't seen most of the books since I was a child, and they were old then (I got a few of them when the local library discarded them). So I can't say I'm a fanboy exactly, but I did enjoy the books I saw. The recent movie seemed reasonably true to the spirit of the books to me. I know it mixed a couple of the books together, but that is Hollywood.

I've come close to throwing away a couple of movies, but I gave them away instead. One that I gave away because it just ticked me off was 2012. The basic lesson I took away from that movie was to stay away from John Cusack, because wherever he goes, destruction follows on a grand scale, and only he and his family will escape. Those escapes were so ridiculous that I just got angry that the producers of that dreck expected me to suspend my disbelief so far.

What was it you hated so much about the Tintin movie?

Pretty much everything - the way the books were mashed together and mangled, villains becoming good guys and vice versa, the animation (the film should have been live action) and the fact that a Tintin fanboy (Steven Spielberg) made this dreck.

The only good thing about it was Sir Peter Jackson's "audition" as Captain Haddock on the DVD special features.  :bouncegiggle:

I've never thrown a movie away.  I've gotten rid of them by trading them away.  The one example that sticks out in my mind is Napoleon Dynamite

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
I grew up thinking it was a really good movie and then I watched it at the age of about 25. I realized how god-awful it is. So I took it to the used movie place and they wouldn't take it. So I hucked it out the window ala Shaun of the Dead.

In a related story I bought it about 3 months ago so we could do a podcast episode on it. Got it off Amazon for $.50. So this movie now owes me $20.49.

There are a few in my collection that deserve that treatment, but oh well.     The only one's I've tossed were because they were unplayable.  I had a copy of Shark Attack 2 but the guy peeled the rental sticker off the disk, leaving the top of it full of glue so it adhered itself to the inside of my DVD player  :hatred:

One time I was in the now gone Delihaus in Kenmore Square Boston and Jon Spencer Blues Explosions "Bell Bottoms" came on. I hated it so much I almost had a nervous breakdown. I loved his previous band p***y Galore but the Explosion wasn't my style to say the least

I felt like doing that Envy starring Jack Black and Ben Stiller. Man, that was such an awful let down. Instead I just donated it to a church yard sale. I hated Clerks 2 quite a lot as well but thankfully I didn't own that dreck.

 don't blame you, that movie has the most cringeworthy dialogue I've ever witnessed in any movie. so pretentious it made me want to punch myself in the ears for even hearing it

Trevor, you actually threw away Diana?  As much as I disliked it as a movie, I very much liked the cinematography, and am hoping to score a cheap copy to study.   :teddyr:

I'm a terrible hoarder of some things.  I'd never throw away a movie unless the disc rotted or something.

zombie - it's weird so did I. something about that song which from their then new follow up album just didn't work for me. in a big way.

AJ- that's one of those movies that looks historically accurate and powerfully boring

If it was historically accurate I wouldn't hate it as much.

It's an exploitation of tragic event and that's all.

I own that movie on DVD but I haven't watched it. My Dad bought it. I'm sure it's at least more historically accurate.

Well, I never owned a copy of the King of Fighters movie, but if I did I'd wonder what the heck I was thinking for buying it, before dousing it with (insert choice of flammable substance) and applying a match ...

If I knew that you were looking for a copy, I would have sent mine to you. The person that inspired me to be a bone marrow donor and an organ donor was nowhere to be seen in that huge disaster. Naomi Watts tried but even her Diana clothes looked like cheap knockoffs.  :buggedout:

The first movie I ever actively disliked, and yes - HATED, was ONLY WHEN I LAUGH.  It turned me off the drama genre for decades.

RUNNING SCARED (2006) is one of the few movies I did not finish, and stopped it after about 10 minutes.  Had it not been a rental, I may well have destroyed the disk as a favor to mankind.

It's an exploitation of tragic event and that's all.

The same can be said for every single 9/11 movie ever made. I don't mean the documentary stuff, but movies like World Trade Center (2006) and United 93 (2006) that were either overdramatized or flat-out fictitious tales of what might have happened on that day. Anything with Nicolas Cage in it, you can pretty much dismiss as made up b.s.

I pitched some old VHS porn into the garbage a while back, but you can get all of that for free on the Internet nowadays so I don't see it as any kind of loss. ;)

Watched a film last week called Raptor Ranch that I hated and decided to throw out. Thinking I'd warn my friends to prevent them watching something so bad I put a warning up on facebook telling them to avoid it (its not that the film itself was really that bad, I just found every character incredibly irritating, except for the heroine who was just bland).

I really should have guessed that the responses I would get would be along of the lines of "Wow, a film so bad even you won't watch it. I have to see this movie." When I think of all the time I spent trying unsuccessfully to get them to watch something like Grabbers or Feast and all I had to do was tell them to avoid them like the plague and they'd all have came running.

Most movies that suck I feel bad for or am just like ahh they were trying to make some money. That movie with the Killer Sharks tintorero or whatever it was p**sed me off, and any movie that has sex between siblings/ family grosses me out. Night of the Lepus p**sed me off because the bunnies were so stupid , they should have looked at it and said "oh brother" and not released it.

and of course Dondi for obvious reasons

Not a movie, but I shredded a copy of Mike Diana's comic "Boiled Angel" (which had graphic artwork depicting child rape) because it disgusted me so much. I wrote a long article about why I destroyed it as a pro-free speech gesture.

The special effects seem fine in Raptor Ranch, the acting is more or less what I'd expect from this kind of movie, but it was just the characters were so damn annoying and not even in a "I really want to see this character die" kind of way, it was just I want this movie to end right now. I've seen way worse films, but for some reason this one just really irked me and I got no enjoyment out of it at all.

I can't think of a movie that I hated that much. I usually donate them to a local thrift store if I'm not wild about them. I figure even the crappiest movie can do some good by giving a local charity some cash, even if it is at the cost of some poor sap's sanity.

Then again, if someone had done to one of my favorite fandoms what Spielberg had apparently done to Tintin, I'd probably throw the movie into the bottom of the trash bag after a fishing trip, and then bury it under what remains after I cut my fillets.

Too late, Trevor.

"The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun" scheduled for release on December 16, 2016 with Peter Jackson directing and producing and Stephen Spielberg producting.
With a 3rd film scheduled for an unknown later date. Not as much information on that one.

Maybe, if you wave your underwear in their direction, that might get them to cease and desist, making a film I have no interest in seeing. Even though Tintin is one of my favorite comic book characters.

I'm sure Indy knows what is coming since I'm posting to this thread.

I didn't throw it away. At least, I don't think I did. I know I don't have it anymore. Anyway, SUCKER PUNCH is the first movie that made me want to snap it in half. Take Chevy Chase's rant about his boss from CHRISTMAS VACATION and adjust it to SUCKER PUNCH, and that would have been me after the first 15 minutes. The only reason I sat through the whole thing was that Indy said such glowing things about it, and I respect him and his opinions. We have since agreed to disagree on this movie. Ambrose Bierce should rise from the grave and gut Zach Snyder. If Bierce reference doesn't make sense, then you might enjoy SP.

Another movie I recently purchased and gave away after 15-20 minutes of viewing was JUMPER. When I saw Hayden Christensen's name, I should have ran the other way, but I had recently read the original novel, and the person who suggested the novel said the movie made more sense (which confused me because the book was pretty straightforward). I gave it a shot. Apparently, no one connected with the movie read the book. Awful in every way. And I'll watch Samuel Jackson in practically anything. Hell, I put up with DJANGO UNCHAINED just to watch him. But not this piece of fluid feces.

I tell you what, Indy. You dress up like Tim Curry during the "Sweet Transvestite" scene in Rocky Horror (not sure where you would find a corset that would match your eyes) and post the picture on this forum, and I will buy the director's cut of Sucker Punch and watch it, beginning to end, and will post a positive and glowing review of the film (yes, I know it is bad to lie, but I can do it so that it sounds like I mean it) here AND on my blog, along with a picture of me holding the DVD/BD and actually smiling. Hell, I'll even log onto IMDb and post a positive review, just to sweeten the deal.

What do you say?

Well I didn't throw it away since it was on Netflix, but Epic Movie is a hideous and painfully unfunny pile of trash. Me and my friend only watched it because we thought it would be a guilty pleasure since it was on the Bottom 100. Very wrong we was. It's one of the most painful cinematic experiences I've endured in a while. We had watched the other Seltzer spoof Disaster Movie which was also dreadful, but kind of a guilty pleasure for us just because of it's unbelievable stupidity.
