I used to drink a 40 and more like everyday. I stopped because I was getting too fat not because I cared about drinking too much. I've replaced beer with wine for those same reasons. I like wine a lot less but it scratches the itch. I don't drink at all on weekends really or not in the same way: as a means of defogging my brain after hours of manual labor

I know for a fact that my body really can't handle much alcohol.. not that I get drunk quickly but it's a bit too tender on the insides to handle constant drinking.  So I seldom drink.  Only a beer once in a while in the hot tub, but that's pretty much it.  I just stick to soda.
Drugs.. no way, no how.  Not even smoking.
Call me boring but my body just couldn't handle it.  Plus, all that sh*t would get very expensive.

I have a drink before bed almost every night. I used to be a heavy drinker in my 20s, but the hangovers after 12 hour drinking sessions started catching up to me and I realized I needed to slow down. Now, 3 drinks in a sitting is pretty much my limit.

Lester is right that drinking adds a lot of weight: when I lost almost 100 pounds years ago, I cut out beer entirely for several months.

As far as drugs, I've done them all. I doubt anyone here could name a drug I haven't done (without getting too exotic). However, I have never used a needle, and wouldn't (maybe if I was diagnosed with an incurable disease).

My biochemistry seems to be different than other people's, and I just don't get hooked on recreational street drugs. I can take or leave any of them. I did get hooked on nicotine and caffeine, however, so I understand addiction.

What can I say?  My Dad was a 6'4" Southern Baptist preacher who wore a size 18 ring.

I was a GOOD kid - even when I didn't want to be! :buggedout:

But I've only sampled alcohol a handful of times in my life and never tried drugs.

Cholesterol is my only addiction*.  NEVER get between me and a cheeseburger!

I enjoy an occasional beer or three - in fact, I had a couple this afternoon.

As far as drugs go, I went thru a little Cheech & Chong period when I was in college but that was a long time ago and I haven't partaken since.

Used to drink heavily and pop oxy like candy.  I've been off pills for a couple or three years now and refuse them every time a doctor tries to prescribe me pain medicine.  I'd probably still be a drunk but the simple fact is I just can't drink that much anymore.  My insides won't take it.  The only thing I can handle these days is a glass of wine or two before I have to go worship at the porcelain altar.  No point in trying to drink if I'm just going to puke it up.

indiana- reminds me of radio pastor I listen to. He talked about going to Austria and all the Christians there drink like fish, but smoking is absolutely verboten. They went over to Romania the next night and it was the opposite: every smoked like chimneys but there was no alcohol whatsoever. "god changed as we crossed the border" something to that effect he said sarcastically

I drink.  A lot.

Was drinking earlier tonight.  I'd even reckon to say I'm a bit of an alcoholic.  I drink most nights.

Drugs, not anymore.  I almost died a couple years back.  Just give me beer and I'm good.

I only drink on weekends, but then most likely way too much. Smoking is more of a problem there...cigarettes. Only tried drugs a couple of times. But my worst addiction might be energy drinks. Got pretty rough working hours (3am to 1pm) and I can't really sleep after that for a reason so I drink energy drinks to get by till evening to have my 5-6hours of sleep at least.

I have a few beers (like 8 or so) on Friday and Saturday nights.  Need to wind down after a long week of work.  Rarely drink during the week.  Don't drink hard liquor any more, that stuff left me hung over for days afterwards.  Used to smoke pot constantly when I was in my 20's.  Good stuff that  :teddyr:  Guess we quit because we had kids and didn't want the house smelling of the stuff, probably wouldn't have set a good example.  Tried a lot of other stuff back in the day too, magical mushrooms were a ton of fun.

Lester is right that drinking adds a lot of weight
I was a heavy beer drinker from about 18 to 32 and never weighed more than 15 stone. Soon as I gave up alcohol 4 years ago my weight ballooned to nearly 18 stone almost overnight and I developed my first ever beer-belly.  :bluesad:

Do a lot of excercise now and got my weight down but I still can't completely vanish the beer belly.

As for drugs I think I've done everything except heroin, not taken any type of substance or drug for at least 10 years now. Took 2 tabs of  LSD at Glastonbury festival, that was good. Took an extasy pill at club Kinetic in Stoke and that was terrible. Extasy was the worst drug I've ever tried.

I'm a light weight. I drink but not the hard stuff. Lately I'm getting into that hard Apple cider and have maybe a pint every other week, and I get a nice buzz from it. I'll drink a bottle of wine once a month.

I'll also smoke pot but maybe once a year.

With my daughter being diabetic I can't get hammered or anything unless I'm on my own and kid free, which usually means I get stupid drunk or high once a year.

I drank a lot from my mid-20s to my early 30s.  I would get drunk . . . I mean, "don't remember stuff I did and pass out in strange places" drunk . . . almost every night of the week.  It was pretty normal among the people I hung around with.  We just all went to a bar or to someone's house every night and drank.  But it never really interfered with my life.  I always answered the bell for college or work the next day.  Now I'm 50 and I don't drink much anymore.  I get drunk maybe a few times every year, but I may go several weeks or months without having more than a few beers.  The thing is, when I AM drunk, I love it.  I always have fun when I get loaded.  Some of the best times of my life involved drinking.  I'm not really proud of that, but it's the truth!

Well, my drinking is more at home after work, of out but staying long enough to get right before I drive.
Hard stuff, beer or wine, what ever tastes good to me. Never saw any sense in getting plowed. Tis my way.

I was put off drinking hard liquor from an early age: my grandpa let me try a sip of what was in his coffee mug, I drank it, puked and haven't touched any liquor except for a beer now and then since. Usually when I have a beer, there's a lemonade or a Sprite added.  :drink:

I smoked for 24 years and gave up in 2009 after a health scare.

I have never touched stuff like pot (or dagga as we call it here) or heroin or cocaine: I don't see any need to do any of these, although Mom is a medical marijuana proponent. She had two sisters one of whom had chronic asthma and the other cancer: her mom would make a tea out of the dope and drinking it would ease the pain that her daughters suffered. Mom told me she tried the tea and went  :tongueout: +  :buggedout:: very, very bitter.

You ARE the only RCMerchant, thats for damn sure, as for the rest...

I barely drink now, not even a beer a week, though I like a drink.  I never seem to have time for one, or want to spend the empty calories.   In the past...
Back in the mid 90's I used to burn off a a good part fifth before going out for the evening to party then kept going all night after that.  But I began to realize it ws for the wrong reasons so I made myself back off.   I've also experimented with a lot of other stuff, short of the "biggies" Heroin and what not.  I only ever liked hallocenigens, and then not often.  In college, I used to smoke Pall Mall unfiltered cigs, but gave that up when I realized they were not really doing anything for me.    Finally in the 21st centrury I don't do much of anything, I LOVE coffee and only drink alcohol when its something special, like a good beer, cider or cocktail. Hate smoking, and haven't touched a drug in nigh on 20 years.
I don't think I have an addictive personallity, I just do stuff, and tend to moderation overall.  Mostly I like waking up feeling OK, its a big incentive to clean living.

I once hated to be called "dude".  Finally, I came to appreciate the Dude.  Wish I had that head of hair.

I've a family history with alcohol.  For years I swore I'd never drink.  My dad was a drunk and we've had longstanding issues.  I still refuse to talk to him.  But I turn to it.  Frequently.  I drink a lot.
