Title: This is the South Africa I know and love
Post by: Trevor on November 24, 2014, 05:21:44 AM
Vincent Nota is my hero of 2014: just read what this Wimpy waiter did. It will make you  :teddyr: :teddyr: broadly.

They should make this dude CEO of the company and I thought I was good with customers!

Wonderful!

Though, when I saw the word "wimpy," I thought they were referring to the waiter.

Yes and no.

Wimpy is a burger chain which references Popeye's pal Wimpy, who was always asking someone to buy him a burger, and he'd pay them back later. I have never eaten in one in South Africa, but when I was in the U.K. I did enjoy eating  in them, if only because, if I remember correctly, fries automatically came with everything on the menu, and the catsup or ketchup had more vinegar in it, then what you find here in the U.S., and with all the McDonald's and Burger King's taking over the world, I am glad to see that they still exist, even if it is only in South Africa.

yeah I use to love Wimpy fries, they were the best of any of the big-name fast food chain fries

not seen a  Wimpy here (uk) in years, don't think they still exist here, might be wrong...

nice story. the guy possibly should've had a carer though, if he's wheelchair bound, can't grip anything and struggles to communicate?

in 1997 I worked or 6 months as carer for a guy in a wheelchair. I would do three 24-hour shifts a week. he was basically paralyzed from the neck down but had some movement in his arms. when he was eating he could lift a fork to his mouth but I had to cut all his food up into bite-size chunks

That's too bad, if they truly no longer exist in the U.K. As I said, I enjoyed eating in  them, when they still existed in the U.K. Though, I am no surprised, as the local chains like Wimpy's are giving way to the international chains like McDonald's and Burger King. Something else that I miss seeing, as they seemingly existed in greater numbers, when I 1st started traveling to the U.K., then they did on my most recent trip to the U.K. And that is your local fish 'n' chips shop. I guess another  British institution that has fallen prey to modern times.

I *just* remember Wimpy, they are definitely gone from UK now. They kinda reminded me a bit of little chefs, might just be the era though
