There are a few in my area (and I'm not referring to my undies hanging on the washing line  :buggedout:): one of the biggest is this multipurpose mall which was to include a hotel amongst other things:

If we all got together, we could make quite a nice creepy little horror movie in it: Funds dried up, no money to finish it, no money to knock it down.  :buggedout:

My town's been in the back pocket of real estate speculators for decades.

That actually looks quite nice.

We don't have too many these days where I live as the city and/or private parties have been good about taking care of or tearing down eyesores.

The one that comes to mind is the former Dubuque Packing Company.  After the plant was shut down in the early 2000s it fell into disrepair because the company that owned the plant didn't want it up and running.   A local developer eventually bought the plant and after the city rezoned the land had the plant razed to make room for a shopping center.  By then the plant was in pretty sorry shape.  The only thing it was used for was police and fire dept drills.  Otherwise it was falling apart right at the front door to the city.

For the most part the former plant site is now an empty field - the proposed shopping center didn't happen.  Even if nothing happens with the site in my lifetime I'm glad the plant is gone.  I think an empty field is better than a bunch of buildings rotting away on our front doorstep.

There's a few buildings in what's called the Historic Millwork District that are being restored right now.  They're doing a pretty good job of taking care of these old eyesores.

I'm glad to see the buildings in the area becoming useful again.  It beats having them fall apart too.

Don't have a picture of it on me at the moment but right in the middle of the village where I live and work, they put a recycling centre up. While I think recycling is a good idea it sits in the middle of several housing estates on the main road into town and smells pretty ripe during the summer. Pressure from locals did force the operators to build a high fence around the property to at least make it less visable.

Huh...looks like someone in the planning dept. watched the freeway scenes in EARTHQUAKE and said "I just love that aesthetic."

Where I was born, Monsour Hospital. The brothers who owned and practiced there also mismanaged it and now there it sits. Supposedly it will be raised soon.

The connecting highways to the right of the picture are lower than those: makes you wonder how they messed up a design like that.  :question:

Every strip mall and cookie cutter subdivision there is.  Add to that, every four lane road and every traffic light.

If I had my way, all roads would be 4x4 tracks on their good days.   :wink:

Used to be a quaint 17th century bridge that pretty much made this whole park.

I got washed out in Hurricane Gastone.

There was some talk of fixing it, but instead, they just put a layer of cement on it to keep it from falling the rest of the way down, & left it like that.

Southeast Portland has some really hideous paint jobs on their houses.  The whole "keep Portland weird" mantra doesn't really jive with me.

looks like some kind of correctional facility of the future. ('the future' according to a b-movie made in 1975 but set in 1992)

true story, when I temporary lived out in New Orleans East, on Friday when all of the homework was done (I was in Kindergarten at the time) me and my family would go there. I was 5 at the time, so 1999-2000

I think part of the movie The Courier with Jeffrey Dean Morgan was shot there.

Jeannette Glass Plant
Opened in 1887 and closed in 1983. It's nearly demolished now, but for nearly 30 yrs it has been a huge eyesore and a constant reminder of the town's, long past, glory days.

I understood what you meant lester. They wanted to do something unique and ended up creating an eyesore. Like, for instance, The EMP museum in Seattle. I mean, it would be a great addition to an amusement park, but I'm not so sure about it being in the center of a Metropolitan area.

hahaha. There's a building kind of  like that at MIT. I went inside to do deliveries a couple of times it's cavernous and awful

Wouldn't look too out of place in New Orleans, mainly Bywater area.
