I was watching the making of Jackass: The Video Game a while back and two of the injuries that the player can get are (a) bruised left testicle and (b) bruised right testicle - I am so glad I've never suffered those injuries.  :wink:

Not to make light of these injuries, because getting hit in the groin can hurt, but my late father, who was at the time building bridges for what was then the old Great Northern, and is now the Burlington Northern, was building a bridge in the Pacific Northwest and was wielding a rivet gun, when it jerked back and caught him in the groin, and he lost a testicle to the accident, either left or right, and yet he sired four children, two still born, and my younger sister and I.

That was not the only serious injury he suffered building bridges, some of which, even some 70 years later, can be still seen, where he built them. While working on another bridge, he fell off the bridge and onto a rock on the river bed below, and shattered his left shoulder so bad, that they had to put in six or seven pins to hold his shoulder together.

Thus, building bridges for him was even more dangerous than the time he spent in the U.S. Navy, and he was in three Wars. Being still a teenager and wanting to see some action, he was in a party of ten who went ashore during the second wave for the battle of Iwo Jima. Eight of the men in party were buried there on the island, including my father's best friend at the time, who went ahead of him over a sand dune and hit a landmine. And that was the end of the best friend. Number nine of the ten men was carried off the island on a stretcher. My father was the only one at the end of the battle who walked off the island.

It was not safe to be my father's best friend, for during the battle of Okinawa, my father decided it was safer to stay onboard the ship he was serving on. Only for the ship to be hit during a Kamikaze attack, and for his best friend to be killed during the attack. For a long time my father had the Navy blanket that they wrapped his friend in, with the friend's bloodstains still on it.

Thus, the only injuries my father suffered while he was in the Navy, was once during the Korean War, while my father was climbing up a ladder in one of the ship's holds, for some reason, he lost his grip and fell all the way back to the bottom of the ship's hold, till his fall was stopped by a tank on which he landed. He walked away from that one.

And then sometime after the Vietnam War, he and some others were loading ammo, when one of the shells slipped during the loading process, and a tip of one of his fingers was so badly crushed that they had to cut the tip off.

There were few men tougher than my father.

I once accidentally thwacked a man in that region with a tennis racquet. Never seen someone drop to the court quite so fast. 

We once had a pilot who had undergone some high g manouveres while not correctly strapped into his seat. A picture of his ruptured scrotum with bits that were never designed to see the light of day was used to highlight the issue. Five or six years since I last saw that picture just the thought of it still makes me shudder.

Holy Crap!
My dad was Navy during the war. Prop Specialist Aircraft Mech in Alaska. When I think of the things guys like your dad lived through, I think of how lucky dad was.
