is it me or are all these new big horror films essentially the same movie now? looks wise, tone wise, sound wise, acting wise, special FX wise... everything, whether remakes or 'originals', they all seem identical

Yup "cool" teens in horror movies. Sex and violence.

I dont give a f**k-I like what I like-most-MOST-not all-I have seen some good modern horror films-Im like Forry Ackerman-I aint a snob-if it gives me a jolt or makes me happy-if its WEIRD-I either like it or understand why others do.

oh yeah, not getting snobby about it or anything... just seems to me like the 'way' to make horrors has become standardised these days. this trailer looks like everything else. there even seems to be one standard noise for jump scare moments, that every movie uses now. compare to say the 80s when here seemed to be a lot more diversity. anyway, I'm just ranting...

there'll come a point where every horror has been remade, what will they do then lol

Doesn't really need a remake, but I really liked the trailer for some reason.
Especially the clown-scene was incredible.

I'm sorry but, I disagree. Seeing the clown doll move and drop to the floor when the flashlight gets close makes it more cartooney and less scary. The original simply had it disappear and the lack of input from it was more frightening.

I wasn't really a fan of the original.  It was pretty cheesy.

I may see this eventually but I'd wait til it's on HBO or something.

I don't know it doesn't look too bad. I just get a bit sick of too many scares in the trailer.

This makes me think that a watered down remake of The Entity can't be too far behind...

Looks like there's a little too much Grudge and Paranormal Activity in this from the trailer. Just looks like every other haunted house film these days. The original Poltergeist legit scared kids and people back in the day and often as much by what wasn't shown as what was...

The trailer is giving away things that were late reveals in the original movie. It also sounds like they have dropped the devil from the story.

Poltergeist was one of the first horrors I ever saw and I love it. But as its a special effects driven pic, I think a modern remake wouldn't change much. Producers live throwing their CGI at stuff these days and this is the one franchise they can do it in and it could work. Plus, Sam Rockwell. But that Oirish accent sounds appalling.

I'm not for it, I'm just not against it like I was the Halloween remake.

I wonder if anyone has ever thought about doing a horror film where outraged movie fans fed up of endless rubbish remakes start bumping off the people responsible?

Already been done.  It was a slasher called The Remake.
