Title: Twisted Sister to Retire in 2016
Post by: FatFreddysCat on April 11, 2015, 10:28:54 PM
Not sure if anyone here will care about this besides me, but Twisted Sister have announced that they will retire in 2016 after a 'farewell tour' in honor of their late drummer A.J. Pero, who passed away in March.

I've been a fan since junior high school but have never gotten to see them live, hopefully their final swing will come thru my neck of the woods.

The announcement prompted me to write some fanboy dribble about the band on my blog, because that's the kind of thing that middle aged metal nerds do.  :teddyr:

Sorry Freddy I'll just shut up now

I like Twisted Sister.

Hopefully they hit the Philly area.

Saw them live a few years back in Glasgow, supporting Alice Cooper. Definately were worth seeing.

I had Stay Hungry like every metal kid did in the early 80s. They're a hell of a lot better than the lame ass s**t that's being called metal these days.

The problem with 'today's metal' is that there's so many...'sub-categories'...like 30 of them.  And most are CRAP.  And most say that Metallica and Motorhead are SOFT...

No...Richard Marx is soft.

Having 18 guitars, 3 bass players, 4 drummers and a 'singer' who mutters his lyrics like the Cookie Monster doesn't make you 'great.'

There's a reason Metallica won a ton of Grammys and made a billion dollars...they were GOOD.  Not LOUDER.

That's why I stopped paying attention to most "new" metal stuff ages ago.   :teddyr: I don't have the time, the money, or the attention span to keep up with it anymore.

Musically I'm pretty much stuck in a "time bubble" that extends from roughly 1981 till about 1994. I haven't heard a "new" band - metal or otherwise - that's knocked my sox off in a very long time.

Don't get me wrong, I like some of them.

Far from 'great.'  But you can generally see the few that are good.

Fozzy.  Charred Walls of The Damned.  They come to mind.

Have to agree with Fatfreddyscat, 98% of my music collection is from bands that were active around 1980 - early 90s, (although I have picked up a couple up a couple of albums by Fozzy). I love going to see live music and with the ages of most of the bands I am in to I figure I am going to have to broaden my tastes soon or just stop going to gigs.

Fozzy is great.

Started as a cover band featuring members of Stuck Mojo, but they've written great songs of their own since.

First heard about them via the WWE when they did a feature on them. Wouldn't mind catching them live sometime.

I rarely go to concerts anymore, but I saw Overkill (one of my favorite 80s thrash metal bands) this past September for the first time in 20 years. They can still bring it.  :hot:
