Title: Baltimore Riots
Post by: indianasmith on April 27, 2015, 10:39:02 PM
I just hope any of our members who live there are OK.
It looks simply awful.

Freddie gray's death was the least mysterious "mystery" I've ever heard of. He was completely fine before the police picked him up and died of injuries that wouldn't have been out of place in a high speed car wreck.

I don't thing having riots will do anything to rectify the situation though.

Completely True.  There is something really wrong that happened there and I hope those responsible get put into jail for the rest of their lives.  Of course I find it hard to justify a "protest" that wants to end police violence when it leads to a riot.  Seems like the message quickly gets lost and it just because an excuse to loot.

Baltimore seems to have a legitimate problem with police brutality.
But I fail to see how looting, vandalizing, and torching businesses makes anything better.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on it.

Hope I'm not at work the day the race riots make it to Knoxville.   :bluesad:

My cousin lives there and he's OK.  I just saw a photo he posted of having a drink at a local bar - or as he called it supporting local businesses before the curfew.

This didn't come out of nowhere though. There's an aggressive style of policing out there now and basically they need to just put it back where they found it.

And how do you guys like the idiot mayor of Baltimore who said she gave the looters "space to destroy"?   :buggedout:

I read an article last night that said Freddie had undergone spinal surgery the week before and still chose to go out to deal drugs. So it appears that this particular incident was not really the police's fault, not that that matters. As others have said, there are some deep-seated problems in that department, and something needs to be done; however, riots are not the answer.

Let's hear it for the good Moms out there.  If there were more people like this there would not be a problem.

Two lucky guys. The riots are just an excuse by thugs who want to thug. The cops need to explain what happened, but this rioting will only make things worse.

People don't tend to riot about this sort of thing unless they have run out of options and or patience.  I vaguely remember the race riots of the 70's.  It all seems to be the final expression of helplessness.  Of course then the idiots come along and loot.

Sports riots are when they run out of sense of course.

Sadly, that's not true anymore.  There are traveling agitators that instigate social unrest.  Sometimes they get things off the ground in a big way, and sometimes they don't.

Ferguson, for example...

I think the story about him having some sort of previous spine injury is not true

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/bs-md-gray-settlement-20150429-story.html (http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/bs-md-gray-settlement-20150429-story.html)

He had been a plaintiff in a lead paint lawsuit which appears to be a local "thing you could call a scam if you were so disposed" but he there was no car accident or spine injury of any kind

Well, Mr Gray's death has now been ruled a homicide.
