Title: Westboro tried to diss Ireland for gay marriage vote.
Post by: sprite75 on May 27, 2015, 06:54:26 PM
Operative word here is tried (http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/westboro-baptist-church-gets-irelands-flag-wrong-declares-it-hates-ivory-coast-1502854);

Quote
The Westboro Baptist Church has inadvertently declared its hatred of the Ivory Coast, after printing the Irish flag backwards on their posters.

The controversial religious group released a video which featured members of the religious group attempting to perform an Irish jig on an Irish flag to a song about Ireland going to hell.

The video was posted online after the historic yes vote in the Irish gay marriage referendum, which made Ireland the world's first country to legalise same-sex marriage by a popular vote.

Further postings feature signs which say "God Hates Ireland" superimposed on a flag. Unfortunately, the flag has the colours in reverse order: orange, white and green – which is the flag of the Ivory Coast.

I didn't think they could go any further down.

I didn't think they could go any further down.

I used to think that too but they would surprise me with the depths to which they would sink.  Currently they've sunk so low that they would need to look up to see hell.

The best part is they tried the "Upside down Flag" areguement, and didn't realize it would look the same either way.

Somewhat off topic, but . . .?!

It does show how a country, here Ireland, can go from being one of the most socially conservative countries in Europe to one of the most socially liberal countries in Europe. Ireland, a nice country with nice people, and a nice place to visit, and one that I have visited several times over the years, if for no other reason than they do speak English there, more or less. But . . .?! When I 1st visited Ireland, which was many years ago, I was visiting probably the most socially conservative country in Western Europe. Regarded as being the most conservative, more so than Spain, at that time, which was regarded as being the 2nd most socially conservative, because in Spain, you could obtain birth control that was legal, if you had a doctor's prescription for it. Whereas, in Ireland, birth control at that time was illegal, with or without a doctor's prescription.

The contrast was even greater, because just before visiting Ireland, I had been visiting Denmark, which at that time, was regarded as being the 2nd most socially liberal country in Western Europe next to Sweden. What made Sweden more socially liberal than Denmark, was that while prostitution was legal in Denmark, you also had to have another job for it to be legal. Whereas, in Sweden, prostitution could be your one and only profession.

Ireland also provides a contrast to the U.S. While gay marriage is now legal in 37 of the 50 states, at last count, gays had to go to the courts to obtain the right to marry. Only 3 of the 37 states made gay marriage legal by the popular vote.

And we shall see what we shall see.
